The Beast of Blood Lives Again! Brian Yuzna Resurrects the Green-Blooded Horror Icon for New Comics and a Movie Reboot

The Re-Animator producer joins Drive-In-Sanity Films to unleash new Tales of Blood Island comics, monster merchandise, and the planned return of the cult jungle-horror franchise.
Before Michael Myers stalked Haddonfield, Jason Voorhees started decorating Crystal Lake with campers, and Freddy Krueger turned bedtime into a death sentence, there was another savage monster tearing through movie screens.
The axe-wielding, flesh-eating Beast of Blood is clawing his way back from the grave.
Brian Yuzna, the legendary body-horror filmmaker and producer behind the Re-Animator franchise, has teamed with Dave Sehring of Drive-In-Sanity Films for a new Tales of Blood Island Kickstarter campaign. Their mission is simple, resurrect the green-blooded mutant zombie known as the Beast of Blood, also called the Chlorophyll Man, and drag the cult franchise screaming into a new generation.
The campaign will fund Issues #3 and #4 of the jungle-horror comic series while building momentum for a planned reboot of the original Blood Island films, which is currently in pre-production.
Fam, this is not polite, candlelit horror. This is sweaty, pulpy, monster-movie madness straight from the drive-in era, packed with mutants, mad scientists, black magic, prehistoric creatures, military conspiracies, and one extremely hungry zombie who apparently never learned the meaning of portion control.
Based on a film screenplay written by Sehring and Mark Cerulli, the comics feature artwork by Stephen Sistilli, with colors and lettering by Dexter Weeks. Sistilli and Weeks previously collaborated on Koni Waves from Arcana Studios, and now they are bringing that talent into a world filled with tropical terror, decapitations, mutant experiments, and enough green blood to make the Hulk ask questions.
The original Blood Island films were shot in the Philippines during the 1960s and 1970s by filmmakers Eddie Romero and Gerardo de Leon. Created for the American drive-in market, the movies became cult favorites by mixing jungle adventure, mad-scientist horror, monsters, and the unapologetically outrageous exploitation ingredients that defined the era.
The upcoming reboot plans to embrace that pulpy spirit while remixing it into what the filmmakers describe as “tiki jungle horror,” powered by the franchise’s infamous formula of blood, beasts, and adults-only mayhem.
The six-issue Tales of Blood Island comic series is set during the Vietnam War somewhere deep in the South Seas. An American soldier of fortune and his former military partner travel to the mysterious Blood Island, a primitive nightmare world inhabited by prehistoric monsters, mutants, dark magic, and the twisted experiments of Dr. Akira Lorca.
Lorca’s work with a mysterious jungle-plant serum has transformed the dying Don Ramon Lopez into the undying Beast of Blood, a head-hunting, body-swapping zombie with an endless appetite for violence and human flesh.
While the Beast terrorizes the island’s native population, the American soldiers are tasked with eliminating Lorca and recovering his secret formula for reanimating the dead as weapons of war.
Because apparently regular warfare was not already messy enough.
The mission becomes even more personal when the soldier of fortune’s estranged daughter and adopted son join the expedition. What begins as a covert operation quickly explodes into a fight for survival through monster-infested jungles, ancient dangers, mutant horrors, and one mad scientist who definitely should have lost his laboratory privileges years ago.
The third Tales of Blood Island Kickstarter campaign is now live and will fund Issues #3 and #4, scheduled to ship to backers in September 2026. Supporters can also grab a bloody buffet of Beast of Blood merchandise, including tiki mugs, cabana shirts, T-shirts, an action figure, Blu-ray editions of the original Blood Island films, and more.
The Beast of Blood is back, mi gente. The jungle is screaming, heads are rolling, and the green blood is flowing once again.
Enter Blood Island at your own risk.
