STEVE NILES BRINGS CAL McDONALD BACK FOR PLAGUE OF EVIL AND OTHER STORIES

Steve Niles is heading back into the dark with one of his most enduring creations. Cal McDonald: Plague of Evil and Other Stories is now live on Kickstarter through Clover Press and The Fourth Leaf, bringing the paranormal private investigator back for ten brand-new prose stories wrapped in one seriously stacked package.

The 216-page hardcover features a foreword by David Dastmalchian, a painted cover by Joe Jusko and chapter illustrations from Cat Staggs, Liam Sharp, Scott Morse, Christopher Mitten, Gyula Nemeth, Steven Russell Black, Francesco Francavilla, Alison Sampson and Damien Worm.

Cal McDonald has been kicking around monsters, ghouls, vampires and every other nightmare willing to make the mistake of crossing his path since the early 1990s. Niles has returned to the character across novels, short fiction and the Criminal Macabre comics, but this collection marks a return to prose stories after a long gap.

Niles says Cal remains his favorite character to write, and the format sounds built for exactly what made the character work in the first place: hard-boiled crime, supernatural horror, dark humor and a Los Angeles crawling with things that should probably stay underground.

The Kickstarter also includes upgraded editions and extras including prints, lithographs, stickers, T-shirts and a slipcase option. For longtime Cal McDonald readers, the real attraction is simple: ten new stories and a lineup of artists that reads like somebody started making calls and refused to stop until the room was full.
