Carmilla Unbound: Bloodline Comics Brings the Original Vampire Queen Back for Bloody Kickstarter Madness!

WEPAAAA! YO, EVERYBODY LOVES TALKING ABOUT DRACULA, but can we show some damn respect to the lady who was sinking her teeth into people BEFORE that cape-wearing celebrity showed up?! That’s right, fam! Before Dracula became the poster boy for bloodsuckers everywhere, there was CARMILLA, and Bloodline Comics is bringing this legendary vampire queen back with enough sex, violence, and Gothic insanity to make your grandmother clutch her rosary!
CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1698-1875 MULTIPLE ORiginGASMs VOL. 1 launches on Kickstarter October 27, 2026, and BROOOO, even that title is telling you this ain’t your typical vampire story! Bloodline Comics is taking one of horror literature’s most fascinating characters and giving her a whole new playground, stretching across nearly two centuries of blood, betrayal, seduction, and some seriously questionable life choices. Or should I say UNDEAD choices?!
Let’s give credit where it’s due, because history tends to forget who got there first. Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla arrived 26 years before Bram Stoker’s Dracula, introducing readers to a mysterious, seductive female vampire who would help shape the genre long before everybody started arguing about which Dracula movie was the best. Countess Mircalla Karnstein has gone by plenty of names, including Marcilla, Millarca, and Carmilla, but one thing remains consistent: this woman has NEVER been somebody you want to piss off!
Now writers Clay Adams and D.E. Schrader are asking a wicked little question: What if Carmilla survived the events of her original novella and kept moving through history? Better yet, what if she became something of a vampire Dexter, using her supernatural appetite and deadly talents to dish out her own twisted version of justice? PAPI, NOW YOU’RE SPEAKING MY LANGUAGE! A bloodthirsty vigilante who seduces, destroys, and answers to absolutely nobody? That’s one hell of a character to unleash on nearly 200 years of human history!
The creative team is calling this a mix of “sex, violence, and literary merit”, wrapped in a “gothic grindhouse” aesthetic, and I gotta give them credit for knowing exactly what kind of madness they’re selling! This isn’t about turning Carmilla into some misunderstood sweetheart who just needs a hug and a pint of O-negative. We’re talking about a dangerous, complicated woman navigating the ugliest corners of history, leaving a trail of bodies and broken expectations while trying to figure out what her own version of justice looks like.
The story takes readers from 1698 through 1875, exploring the pivotal moments, transformations, and choices that shape Carmilla’s evolution. Think about that for a second, Crusaders. Nearly two centuries of shifting empires, changing societies, and humanity finding brand-new ways to be absolutely horrible to one another. Now imagine an immortal vampire moving through all that chaos, deciding who deserves her mercy and who deserves to become dinner. That’s a pretty damn interesting way to explore the history of a character who helped define vampire fiction.
What makes this concept especially appealing is the willingness to embrace Carmilla’s contradictions. She’s being presented as both a force of terror and liberation, somebody whose actions might look heroic from one angle and completely monstrous from another. That’s the kind of moral mess I enjoy seeing in horror comics! Give me characters with questionable motives, dangerous appetites, and consequences that don’t disappear just because somebody happens to be the main character. Let the readers argue over whether she’s a hero, a villain, or something far nastier in between!
NOW, MY FELLOW COVER COLLECTORS, YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS! Bloodline Comics is bringing out an impressive lineup of artists for this campaign, including Tehani Farr, Mexifunk, Josephine Tomarchio, Andrea Dailey, and Sketch Aesthetics. There’s also a special Daria Hime cosplay cover for collectors who appreciate that side of comic book culture. One of the featured pieces is Farr’s “Carmilla Undead” variant, adding another collectible option to a campaign already leaning hard into its Gothic personality.
I love seeing independent publishers dig into classic literary horror and find new ways to make these characters dangerous again. Carmilla isn’t some brand-new creation somebody dreamed up last Tuesday. She’s part of the DNA of vampire storytelling, and giving her a violent, sensual, historically sprawling reinvention opens the door to some wild possibilities. The trick, of course, is delivering a story that lives up to all that deliciously outrageous marketing. The premise has my attention, and now I’m curious to see how Adams and Schrader bring this immortal troublemaker to life.
CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1698-1875 MULTIPLE ORiginGASMs VOL. 1 launches on Kickstarter October 27, 2026, from Bloodline Comics. If you’re into Gothic horror, vampire mythology, historical fiction, grindhouse storytelling, or independent creators taking big swings with familiar legends, this is one campaign worth putting on your radar.
So tell me, Crusaders, are you ready to follow the original vampire queen through nearly two centuries of bloody vengeance? Or are you still hiding under the covers waiting for Dracula to come save you? Because Carmilla was doing this vampire thing before the Count became a household name, and apparently she’s got a LOT of unfinished business!
