Don’t Meet Your Heroes: Skybound and Image Comics Unleash a Twisted First Look at Super Creepshow #5

Saving the world is usually supposed to come with bright capes, bold poses, and a nice little theme song blasting in the background. Yeah… not this time, fam. Super Creepshow #5 is pulling up with nightmare fuel in one hand and a cursed comic book in the other, and Skybound and Image Comics have officially cracked open the coffin with a first look at interior pages and a wicked lineup of variant covers.

Arriving in comic book shops on July 15, 2026, Super Creepshow #5 continues the five-part spin-off from the Eisner Award-nominated Creepshow comic book anthology, itself inspired by Greg Nicotero’s Shudder TV series produced and licensed by Evoke Entertainment Company. And if you already know the Creepshow vibe, then you already know this ain’t your friendly neighborhood bedtime story. This is the kind of comic that smiles at you from the shelf like it knows something you don’t.

Keeping with the glorious tradition of Creepshow across comics, television, and pop culture, each issue of Super Creepshow delivers two standalone tales of terror from a rotating roster of creators across comics, books, film, television, and beyond. That means every issue is its own little haunted house. You walk in thinking you’re safe, then boom — the floor drops, the walls bleed, and your favorite creators are laughing from the shadows.

This final issue brings the pain with two seriously stacked stories. First up, Eisner Award-winning writer Ram V, known for Detective Comics, teams with artist Riccardo Burchielli of DMZ fame for a tale about a superfan and the superhero he worships. The lesson? Never meet your heroes. Seriously. Keep the poster on the wall, keep the action figure in the box, and keep your expectations out of the morgue.

Then Christian Ward, the mind behind Batman: City of Madness, joins forces with artist Fábio Veras of Two-Face for a second tale that summons the Phantom Professor and digs into the very human horrors hiding beneath the mystic arts. Because apparently magic school is less “cool spells and capes” and more “therapy bill with tentacles.” Wepa, that escalated fast.

The main cover for Super Creepshow #5 comes from superstar artist Pye Parr, whose work on M.A.S.K. already proved he knows how to make a cover jump off the rack and grab you by the eyeballs. The issue also includes open-to-order variant covers by Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran, plus Christian Ward, giving collectors and horror hounds plenty to chase before this cursed beauty disappears into long boxes across the land.

Brian Witten is overseeing the project on behalf of Nicotero’s Monster Agency Productions, helping keep the Creepshow spirit alive, nasty, and grinning like a ghoul at midnight.

And let’s talk about this creative lineup for the larger Super Creepshow series, because Skybound didn’t just call in talent — they summoned a whole horror-comic Avengers squad. The series features creators including Kieron Gillen, Rossi Gifford, Ryan North, Derek Charm, Gerry Duggan, Scott Buoncristiano, Marv Wolfman, James Harren, Brandon Thomas, Juann Cabal, Michele Rubini, Sam Humphries, Sean Izaakse, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Matteo Lolli. That’s not a lineup, that’s a séance with a publishing budget.
