NYCC 2026: Dinobots, Megatronus Rex and Baroness Rock the Energon Universe

WEPAAAA! Skybound, Image Comics and Hasbro came through New York Comic Con with some serious Energon Universe news, fam. The Dinobots are finally joining this shared comics universe, making their debut in Transformers #42 this March. That’s the kind of reveal that makes a whole convention crowd lose its mind.
Megatron becomes Megatronus Rex this fall, while Beachcomber takes center stage in January’s Transformers #40 with guest artist Howard Porter. After all the changes involving Elita Prime, Arcee Magnus and Superion, the Transformers corner isn’t exactly slowing down.
Void Rivals gets in on the action too. December’s #37 launches the “Pit of Destruction” arc as Darak, Solila and Pythona head back to Cobra-La on Earth. Come March, Void Rivals #40 brings Lobotomaxx into the Energon Universe. Yeah, things are getting strange in all the right ways.
Meanwhile, M.A.S.K. #8 introduces Battle Force 2000 in January, including a new bionic version of Maverick. Writer Dan Watters also discussed the Baron Karza cameo and teased how the moving parts connect to M.A.S.K. and V.E.N.O.M. The crossover potential is looking downright ridiculous.
Over in G.I. Joe, the war with Night Force continues, but the big character shakeup is Baroness becoming an agent of Cobra in January’s issue #30. Artist Tom Reilly showed new designs, and Skybound executive editor Ben Abernathy said the move has been planned since day one. Now THAT is a long game.
Robert Kirkman, Jason Howard, Tom Reilly, Conor Hughes, Dan Watters and Ben Abernathy joined the NYCC panel. Skybound says the Energon Universe has sold more than 7.6 million copies. Four ongoing titles, big character debuts and more twists ahead? The Crusade Never Ends!
