THE FURY OF FIRESTORM JUST GOT EXTENDED TO 15 ISSUES, AND DC IS LETTING IT BURN

Crusaders, DC just threw more fuel on the fire.
The Fury of Firestorm, the darker DC Next Level reinvention from Jeff Lemire and Rafael de Latorre, is officially being extended through issue #15. That means six additional issues are coming, and honestly, that tells you plenty about how DC feels about the response to this book.
Firestorm has always been one of those characters with a killer concept that somehow never gets the same mainstream love as Batman, Superman or Green Lantern. Two people fused into one nuclear hero, impossible powers, science-fiction weirdness, identity drama. The ingredients have always been there. What Lemire and de Latorre have done is take that foundation and push it somewhere nastier, moodier and way more dangerous, something we saw firsthand in our review of The Fury of Firestorm #1.
Issue #6 has Firestorm holding Pittsburgh hostage and threatening to dismantle the city atom by atom, which is a pretty wild sentence even by comic-book standards. Firehawk is trying to reach Ronnie Raymond before the Matrix completely takes control, and the whole thing has been leaning harder into horror than a traditional superhero book.
That shift is exactly why the extension matters. DC could have treated this as a short experimental run and moved on. Instead, they are giving Lemire, de Latorre, Marcelo Maiolo and Lucas Gattoni more room to keep building the story into 2027.
Lemire said the project has taken on a life of its own, comparing the expanding story to the Firestorm Matrix itself. And if you have been reading the series, that tracks. Every answer seems to open another door, and every time Ronnie looks like he might have a grip on what is happening, the story finds another way to make things worse.
This also fits into DC’s broader Next Level push, which has been all about handing recognizable characters to strong creative teams and letting them swing harder. Firestorm is one of the clearest examples of why that approach can work. You do not need to reboot everything. Sometimes you just need to stop playing safe with the characters you already have.
The Fury of Firestorm #6 is available now, and the series will continue through issue #15. If you were waiting to see whether DC was committed before jumping in, there is your answer.
The Nuclear Man is staying HOT!
