Bronx and Lance Return in Gargoyles Winter Special 2026
·Al Mega

Fam, Dynamite Entertainment is keeping one of the coolest little traditions from its newer Gargoyles run alive, and I’m here for it. Gargoyles Winter Special 2026 #1 is coming this December, bringing Bronx and his four-legged homie Lance back together for another cold-weather adventure. Because apparently even gargoyles need a little holiday chaos in their lives. And look, Bronx deserves this spotlight. My dude has been holding it down since the ’90s without needing speeches, drama or 47 pages explaining his feelings. He growls, handles business and keeps it moving. Respect.
This year’s oversized special once again brings together Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman, co-writer Nate Cosby and artist George Kambadais. The story takes place on the longest night of the year, with Bronx and his bull terrier buddy Lance staying awake to protect the people they care about while something dangerous waits outside in the snow. Yeah, you already know that sounds like trouble.

What I dig about these specials is that they give Bronx some room away from all the bigger Manhattan Clan business. Gargoyles can get deep with mythology, family, ancient grudges and enough complicated history to make you start taking notes. Here, we get something smaller and more personal built around this weirdly perfect friendship between Bronx and Lance.

This time Lexington is getting dragged into the madness too, and apparently the trio’s winter mission involves searching for… watermelon. In December. Fam. I got questions. But that’s also exactly the kind of wonderfully strange setup that makes me want to see where Weisman and Cosby are taking this thing. You got Bronx. You got Lance. You got Lexington. You got snow. You got danger. And somewhere in the middle of all this, somebody desperately needs a damn watermelon. Aight, Dynamite. You got me.

The special comes in at a chunky 48 pages, so we’re getting some meat on the bone here. Cover artists include Stephen Byrne, George Kambadais, Drew Moss and Domenico Carbone, giving collectors several flavors to choose from. And because apparently choosing one cover wasn’t stressful enough already, Dynamite is also dropping a premium mystery blind bag featuring limited-edition variants pulled from covers created specifically for this release. My fellow collectors already know how this goes. You tell yourself you’re buying one. Then curiosity starts whispering nonsense in your ear. Next thing you know you’re explaining another package at the front door. Don’t look at me. I’m just reporting the news.

Gargoyles Winter Special 2026 #1 hits comic shops December 9, 2026. The issue is written by Greg Weisman and Nate Cosby, with art by George Kambadais, clocks in at 48 pages, and carries a Teen rating.

If you’ve been following Dynamite’s Gargoyles books, this feels like another fun little side trip before everybody gets back to the bigger battles. Sometimes you don’t need the fate of Manhattan hanging in the balance. Sometimes you just need Bronx, Lance, Lexington, a snowy night and a completely unreasonable search for watermelon. Man, comics are weird. I love this stuff.
