HELLTRACK Launches RAD Comic Sequel on Kickstarter

The Helltrack Comic Book Launches on Kickstarter Today

For anyone who was a kid in 1986 (me, me, me, lol) and walked into a movie theater to see RAD, the memory probably still lives somewhere between the sound of spinning BMX tires and the feeling that anything was possible if you had enough guts, speed, and maybe a little reckless confidence.

Cru Jones was not just some movie character on a bike. For a generation of riders, dreamers, driveway daredevils, and kids who looked at every curb like it was a launch ramp, Cru was the guy. He was the underdog who stared down the impossible, hit the pedals, and took on Helltrack like destiny owed him money.

Now, nearly 40 years later, that feeling is back.

HELLTRACK, a brand-new comic book and official sequel to RAD, has launched through a Kickstarter campaign from Tiger Pig Entertainment, giving longtime fans and new readers a chance to return to the world of Cru Jones, BMX glory, and the legendary race that helped define a cult classic.

This is not just a nostalgia lap around the track. HELLTRACK continues the RAD saga with story and character development from original screenwriter Sam Bernard and fan-favorite actor Bill Allen, who helped bring Cru Jones to life. The new comic follows Cru as he steps into a new role, moving from BMX legend to mentor as he inspires his grandson Billy to face the Helltrack, the same death-defying tournament Cru conquered back in 1986.

That is the kind of full-circle storytelling fans love. The hero who once chased the dream now helps the next generation find the courage to ride toward theirs. That is not just RAD. That is legacy with handlebars.

The comic features an original story by Sam Bernard and Geoffrey Edwards, with character development by Bill Allen. It is written by Steven Stern, known for Zen Intergalactic Ninja, illustrated by Ron Williams, lettered by Joseba Morales, edited by Todd Seligman, and features a cover by Brooklyn-based graphic designer and street artist LAmour Supreme.

That creative lineup is clearly built to honor the original while opening the gate for something new. Because for fans of RAD, Helltrack was never just a race. It was a myth. It was the impossible course. It was the place where the underdog either folded or flew.

The original RAD became a cult phenomenon, helping fuel the BMX imagination of Generation X and inspiring action sports competitors for decades. It captured a very specific kind of 1980s energy: big dreams, bigger jumps, neon attitude, and the belief that the right kid on the right bike could challenge the whole system.

HELLTRACK looks to bottle that same lightning and put it in the hands of fans as an oversized, deluxe hardcover collectible. The Kickstarter campaign is offering a lineup of rewards designed to hit longtime RAD fans right in the nostalgia zone, including trading cards featuring a mix of HELLTRACK characters, Allen’s Cru Jones, the stunt racer played by Kevin Hull, and real-life pro BMX talent.

The campaign also includes full-color stickers for bikes, gear, and whatever else needs a little Helltrack attitude, along with more surprises still to come.

For Bill Allen, this continuation has been a long time coming.

“It’s been a long-time dream to continue the RAD saga. This is all a part of creating a bigger, better HELLTRACK… and this is only a shade of things to come,” Allen said. “After 40 years, fans finally have something to hold in their hands. It’s the gift of RAD that keeps on giving and we’d love for you to be a part of it.”

That quote says it all. This is not just another licensed comic. This is a love letter to every fan who never let RAD fade away. The fans who kept talking about it, kept showing it to friends, kept remembering Cru Jones, and kept the legend of Helltrack alive long after the credits rolled.

Editor Todd Seligman also brings a personal connection to the project.

“When I was a kid, my three favorite things were BMX, movies, and comic books,” Seligman said. “I became a pro BMXer and a movie producer, and now my passions come together with HELLTRACK comics!”

That is the energy this project is built on: passion meeting timing, nostalgia meeting craft, and a cult classic finally getting the continuation fans have wanted for decades.

The HELLTRACK Kickstarter campaign is live now and runs through July 3rd, offering fans the chance to back the debut oversized deluxe hardcover collectible part one.

For RAD fans, BMX diehards, comic collectors, and anyone who ever believed a bike could feel like freedom, this is one campaign worth checking out!

Cru Jones rode Helltrack once and became a legend.

Now, HELLTRACK rides again.
