Comic Crusaders HOT List: The 10 Hottest Comics for August 4th/5th, 2026

·Al Mega

WEPAAAAA, Crusaders! Clear some space in those long boxes, warn your wallet that violence may be necessary, and stop pretending you are walking into the comic shop for “just one book.” Nobody believes you. Your pull list does not believe you. Your comic shop owner definitely does not believe you.

The first full week of August is rolling into town with fresh number ones, major character developments, anniversary heat, creator-owned fire, enormous fandom energy, and enough variant covers to make a collector start calculating storage space like they are applying for a mortgage. After digging through publisher information, distributor listings, pull-list activity, collector chatter, confirmed key details, cover programs, and the general noise coming from fandom, Comic Crusaders has narrowed the entire release slate down to the ten books bringing the most serious heat.

One important release check before we start cooking: although our weekly window covers Tuesday, August 4, and Wednesday, August 5, every title ranked below is currently listed for release on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Key Collector’s updated release tracker lists 88 books for the day, led by Marvel, DC, and Image, while Comic Crusaders’ own distributor-based order reports confirm the individual titles and cover options included here.

Now let’s get into the books making noise, moving fandom, attracting collector eyes, and threatening to turn Wednesday morning into a full-contact sport.

10. MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: GENESIS #1

Dark Horse Comics | Writer: Rich Douek | Artist: Gavin Smith | Cover Price: $4.99

By the power of Grayskull, Skeletor is back in the spotlight, and this time the skull-faced menace is not waiting around for He-Man to finish posing. Masters of the Universe: Genesis #1 launches a twelve-issue series digging into the origins of Eternia’s greatest heroes and villains, beginning with Skeletor’s ruthless mission to seize Castle Grayskull and become the one true Master of the Universe.

The collectible appeal comes from a clean combination of franchise history, villain-centered storytelling, and accessibility. Longtime MOTU collectors have been trained since childhood to chase different versions of the same character, so comics, toys, variant covers, and nostalgia already live in the same neighborhood. Dark Horse is also keeping the cover program relatively controlled, with Mark Buckingham and Lee Bermejo options appearing in the distributor listings, giving buyers recognizable artists without dropping forty-seven covers into the arena.

This is not the loudest spec book of the week, but it has durable fandom behind it. Skeletor remains one of pop culture’s most recognizable villains, and an extended origin series could introduce story elements, character interpretations, or supporting players that matter later. Grab it because you love Eternia first. Any future collector heat is gravy on the rotisserie Stridor.

9. CHACHU #1

Image Comics | Writer: Iman Vellani | Artist: Marianna Ignazzi | Colors: Jordie Bellaire | Cover Price: $3.99

Iman Vellani is stepping away from established superhero universes and pulling up with her first solo-written creator-owned comic. That alone puts Chachu #1 under a bright spotlight, but the concept gives it much more than celebrity curiosity. Set in 1979, the five-issue series follows nineteen-year-old Pakistani-Canadian Leila as she travels to California and reconnects with her estranged uncle, a semi-retired private investigator whose missing wife sends the pair into a road-trip mystery soaked in classic Hollywood dreams, family friction, and neo-noir atmosphere.

The creative lineup is sneaky strong. Marianna Ignazzi handles the artwork, Jordie Bellaire brings elite color work, and the covers include contributions from Ignazzi, Matías Bergara, Jacob Phillips, and Christian Ward. That is a serious visual bench for a $3.99 debut. Image also confirmed the August 5 release directly, removing any last-minute calendar foolishness from the equation.

Collector-wise, this is the kind of number one that could age well if Vellani continues building a strong writing career. It is her solo writing debut, it is creator-owned, and it reaches beyond standard cape audiences into film, mystery, South Asian representation, and MCU fandom. Nothing is guaranteed, mi gente, but original projects tied to creators with expanding profiles deserve attention before everybody suddenly becomes an expert six months later.

8. DEATH VIGIL #1

Image Comics | Writer and Artist: Stjepan Šejić | Cover Price: $5.99

Stjepan Šejić is reopening the gates to Death Vigil, and fans of supernatural warfare, cosmic horror, gorgeous fantasy artwork, and heroes who must die before getting hired have every reason to celebrate. This new six-issue run brings back the creator-owned world of immortal Death Knights defending reality against necromancers, Elder Gods, and the ravenous Primordial Enemy.

The value proposition is strong right out of the crypt. Readers receive a fifty-six-page opening issue, Šejić handles both writing and artwork, and the release carries a seven-cover lineup featuring Šejić, Sozomaika, and Mirka Andolfo. The original Death Vigil launched in 2014, so this 2026 return arrives after more than a decade of fan loyalty, recommendations, collected editions, and people asking when the story would continue.

For collectors, returning creator-owned properties can be tricky because the earliest issue usually holds the historical crown. Still, a fresh number one after a long absence can become an important entry point, especially when the original creator remains fully in control. This book earns its Hot List position through reader passion and artistic credibility rather than cheap gimmicks. It is big, beautiful, bloody, and ready to throw cosmic hands.

7. FANTASTIC FOUR #15

Marvel Comics | Writer: Ryan North | Artist: Humberto Ramos | Cover Price: $5.99

Marvel’s First Family is celebrating sixty-five years, and Fantastic Four #15 is arriving dressed for the occasion. Ryan North and Humberto Ramos deliver an oversized forty-page adventure that sends the team backward through time while an unknown threat waits in the present. Somewhere inside all this cosmic science, historical chaos, and impending doom, Johnny Storm’s mustache apparently helps save New York City. Comics, baby. Beautiful, ridiculous comics.

Reader attention is already substantial. Pull-list tracking placed Fantastic Four #15 eighth among the week’s most anticipated comics, putting it ahead of numerous launches and event tie-ins. The release also has eight tracked covers, including a Marcos Martín foil, an Annie Wu Mary Jane Watson variant, a Pixar anniversary cover, a Marvel Rivals variant, and a Humberto Ramos homage edition.

Anniversary issues often attract casual buyers who may not follow the monthly series, and the oversized format gives this one shelf presence. It is not being marketed as a major first appearance, so do not start selling furniture to buy twenty copies. The heat comes from the milestone, the creative team, the cover choices, and the Fantastic Four’s ability to remain central to Marvel’s publishing and multimedia future.

6. FORT PSYCHO #1

Oni Press | Writer: Matt Kindt | Artist: Brian Hurtt | Colors: Bill Crabtree | Cover Price: $5.99

Fort Psycho #1 walks into the shop like somebody kicked open the door, threw a smoke grenade, and yelled, “Everybody get in the long box!” Matt Kindt and Brian Hurtt launch a twelve-issue action maxi-series about disgraced covert operatives imprisoned together inside the island headquarters where their final mission went catastrophically wrong.

Oni Press has been building this launch for months through Free Comic Book Day material, convention promotion, collectible editions, a heavy cover campaign, and its new “Psycho-Vision” printing process. According to the publisher, Psycho-Vision combines different print techniques to amplify the book’s high-intensity storytelling. Translation: Oni wants the physical comic to feel like an experience, not merely thirty-something pages held together by staples and good intentions.

The creative pairing gives the project credibility, while the unusual production approach gives collectors something tangible to discuss. Key Collector currently tracks a loaded cover program, and the distributor list includes Brian Hurtt, Lewis LaRosa, Dustin Weaver, Kyle Starks, David Rubín, Iñaki Miranda, foil editions, black-and-white versions, and preorder options. Variant overload can become a trap, but a strong concept, established creators, and distinctive printing make this one of the week’s most intriguing physical releases.

5. MARY JANE: FACE IT, TIGER #1

Marvel Comics | Writers: Ann Nocenti, J.M. DeMatteis and More | Artists: Alina Erofeeva, Andrea Broccardo and More | Cover Price: $4.99

Sixty years after Mary Jane Watson stepped into Peter Parker’s life and dropped one of the most famous introductions in comic book history, Marvel is giving MJ the anniversary spotlight she deserves. Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 presents stories from three different eras of her life, followed by an epilogue teasing where the character could be headed next.

That final epilogue is where collector ears should perk up. Anniversary anthologies are often respectful victory laps, but future-facing material can add importance beyond the celebration. No wild speculation is needed. Marvel openly states that the ending points toward MJ’s future, making the book relevant to ongoing readers as well as longtime fans.

The cover lineup is built for attention, with Jim Cheung, JeeHyung Lee, Gurihiru, David Nakayama, Rachael Stott, and full-art editions among the tracked options. Key Collector lists ten total covers, and advance pull activity placed the book twenty-third for the week, respectable territory for an anniversary one-shot centered on a supporting character. Mary Jane has survived romance drama, superhero madness, alternate identities, symbiote bonds, and decades of editorial turbulence. Give the woman her flowers, preferably before a Green Goblin throws them off a bridge.

4. POWER RANGERS: GREEN #1

BOOM! Studios | Writer: Paul Allor | Artist: Gustaffo Vargas | Cover Price: $4.99

Tommy Oliver remains one of the most beloved Power Rangers ever created, and BOOM! Studios knows exactly which emotional button it is pressing. Power Rangers: Green #1 enters a devastated future where Tommy is the last Power Ranger on Earth. He has retired the morpher and built a quiet life with an unusual family, but somebody from his past arrives with a challenge that could force the Green Ranger back into action.

The fandom power here is enormous. Tommy is not simply another Ranger. For generations of viewers, he was the character who transformed from enemy to hero, changed colors, led teams, returned across multiple eras, and became inseparable from the franchise’s identity. A future-set reinterpretation involving an older Tommy carries emotional weight before the first page is even opened.

BOOM! is treating this like a major launch with fourteen tracked covers. Tony Harris, Gustaffo Vargas, Chris Mooneyham, Juni Ba, Oliver Ono, Deb JJ Lee, Erica Henderson, and Ariel Olivetti are among the artists involved, along with foil, connecting, full-art, and blank variants. That creates plenty of collector temptation, but it also means buyers should choose carefully instead of morphing into bankruptcy. The story concept, Tommy’s legacy, and the size of the cover campaign make this one of the week’s biggest fandom plays.

3. ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #22

DC Comics | Writer: Jason Aaron | Artists: Rafa Sandoval and Juan Ferreyra | Cover Price: $4.99

The Absolute Universe continues moving like it stole something, and Absolute Superman #22 launches “Get Brainiac,” the storyline driving directly toward a game-changing twenty-fifth issue. Before Superman can reach Brainiac, he must survive a new version of Metallo, complete with Kryptonite flowing through his veins.

Here comes the collector meat: this issue contains the introduction of Metallo in the Absolute Universe. Alternate-universe versions of established characters do not automatically become major investments, but the Absolute line has built enough readership and identity that significant character debuts deserve attention. This is not a random one-panel gag version either. Metallo stands directly between Superman and Brainiac at the beginning of a major arc.

Reader interest backs up the heat. Pull-list data ranked Absolute Superman #22 as the second most anticipated comic of the entire week, behind only the book sitting at number one on our list. Seven covers are currently tracked, including work from Rafa Sandoval, Eric Canete, Juan Ferreyra, and Scott Hepburn. Story momentum, an Absolute debut, and the march toward issue twenty-five make this a clean high-priority pull.

2. QUEEN IN BLACK: VENOM UNCHAINED #1

Marvel Comics | Writer: Charles Soule | Artist: Juanan Ramírez | Cover: Leinil Francis Yu | Cover Price: $4.99

Eddie Brock is back in trouble, which for Eddie means prison, Carnage complications, no symbiote, and a cosmic nightmare approaching at highway speed. Queen in Black: Venom Unchained #1 begins a three-issue tie-in following Eddie’s attempt to escape confinement and reunite with Venom before the Queen in Black reaches him.

The confirmed key detail launches this book near the top of the list: the debut of a new Eddie Brock Venom suit. Symbiote collectors pay attention to new forms, new hosts, costume evolutions, and visual transformations because Venom’s history is built on constant mutation. Some designs become permanent, others disappear faster than a bodega sandwich at lunchtime, but a confirmed new suit inside an event tie-in is exactly the kind of development collectors monitor.

Marvel is offering five tracked covers, including Leinil Francis Yu, Peach Momoko, Skan, and Emanuela Lupacchino. Advance pull activity placed the issue twenty-fourth overall, but its collector angle is stronger than that ranking suggests because pull charts naturally favor established ongoing titles. Charles Soule writing Eddie Brock during a symbiote event, combined with a new Venom look, gives this book real key potential without requiring a rumor cooked up by somebody filming inside their parked car.

1. BATMAN #12

DC Comics | Writer: Matt Fraction | Artist: Jorge Jiménez | Cover Price: $4.99

Here it is, mi gente. The Mega Heat Pick of the Week.

Batman #12 brings six elite assassins into Gotham City, leaves Batman scrambling to discover who hired them, and delivers Alfred Pennyworth’s final gift to Bruce Wayne. That gift arrives in the form of Verity Pennyworth, a brilliant new ally entering the Bat-Family during one of its most dangerous moments.

The key status is confirmed: Batman #12 features the first full appearance of Verity Pennyworth, following her final-page cameo in Batman #11. She is being positioned as Alfred’s successor and the new butler of Wayne Manor, which gives her immediate access to Bruce Wayne, Batman, the Batcave, and the entire extended family. Whether readers embrace her, reject her, debate her, or spend six months arguing over whether Batman should even have a butler, Verity is stepping into a historically important role.

Reader anticipation is already through the roof. League of Comic Geeks pull data placed Batman #12 at number one for the week, while collector and fan conversations have focused heavily on Verity’s arrival and Jorge Jiménez’s character design. DC is supporting the issue with eight tracked covers from Jiménez, Dustin Nguyen, Jorge Molina, Ryan Sook, David Aja, Marcio Takara, and others. The Verity Pennyworth design variant is the obvious collector target because it directly showcases the new character, although the main Jorge Jiménez cover remains the clean first-print foundation.

First full appearance, major Bat-Family role, top-ranked reader anticipation, multiple premium covers, and a creative team of Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez. No gymnastics required. Batman #12 is the hottest comic hitting shops on August 5, 2026. Secure your copy before the person ahead of you suddenly decides they need all eight covers for “research.”

The top three books have clearly defined collectible hooks. Batman #12 brings Verity Pennyworth’s first full appearance, Queen in Black: Venom Unchained #1 debuts a new Eddie Brock Venom suit, and Absolute Superman #22 introduces the Absolute Universe version of Metallo. Those are confirmed developments, not somebody whispering “possible movie option” into a webcam while dramatic music plays.

The launches offer a different type of opportunity. Power Rangers: Green #1, Chachu #1, Fort Psycho #1, Death Vigil #1, and Masters of the Universe: Genesis #1 are all entry points with varying combinations of creator importance, franchise loyalty, format experimentation, and long-term story potential. Meanwhile, Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 and Fantastic Four #15 bring milestone energy, recognizable cover talent, and characters with generations of built-in love.

Buy what you enjoy. Read what you buy. Support the creators and shops keeping this culture alive. Do not let FOMO turn your bank account into the opening scene of a true-crime documentary. A hot book can cool down overnight, but a great comic stays great after the algorithm moves on to the next shiny object.

That is the heat for Tuesday, August 4, and Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Ten books entered the arena, Batman walked out wearing the crown, and our wallets are somewhere filing a restraining order.

Pull smart. Read loud. Support your local comic shop.
