Indie comics gets built by people willing to keep showing up, keep drawing and keep putting the work in even when there is no giant machine behind them. Karl Slominski is getting some well-earned recognition for exactly that, as Indie Comics Creator Con has named him the latest recipient of The Dan T Award.
The award will be presented during IC3@Providence on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Teamworks Warwick in Rhode Island. The Dan T Award recognizes an independent comic creator who demonstrates strong promise and commitment to the craft, with eligibility focused on first-time exhibitors at an IC3 event.
Comic Art Fans CEO Kasra Ghanbari said the selection committee was struck by Slominski’s range and energy, noting that his single-image illustration work is matched by his sequential storytelling. Slominski will be exhibiting at table F1-80 during the show.
Along with the recognition, Slominski will receive a $500 award, a commemorative statue, a free exhibitor space at a future IC3 event, a one-year CAF Premium subscription and additional promotional opportunities through ComicArtFans.com and IC3.
The award is named for the late Dan Tancredi, remembered as a passionate supporter of comic creators, especially independent and emerging talent. Sean Watkins of Athenaeum Comic Art, Mikail Lotia and Ghanbari created the award, with a committee of longtime readers, collectors and friends of Tancredi overseeing the selection process.
IC3@Providence runs from noon to 8 p.m. on September 26 and will feature more than 160 independent comic creators, along with panels, portfolio reviews and creator showcases. Tickets are $5, with children 12 and under admitted free with a paid adult.
