Marvel is turning the lights out this October.
The publisher has released a new trailer for its upcoming Midnight Universe, a darker creator-driven line launching October 7, 2026 with three new #1 issues arriving on the same day: Midnight Spider-Man #1, Midnight Fantastic Four #1, and Midnight X-Men #1.
The line is built around reimagining familiar Marvel heroes through horror, survival, and darker genre storytelling while connecting the books through a shared mythology. Marvel says the three launch issues will be the only Marvel comics released on October 7, putting the full spotlight on the new initiative.
Midnight Spider-Man #1 comes from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist ScieTronc. Marvel is keeping the larger mystery close to the chest, but the premise puts a horror spin on Peter Parker’s familiar responsibility mantra as Spider-Man discovers that his powers may come with something far more monstrous attached.
Steve Beach provides the regular cover, with variants from Ryan Stegman, Peach Momoko, Skan, Jeehyung Lee, Clayton Crain, Eric Canete, and InHyuk Lee.
Midnight Fantastic Four #1, written by Benjamin Percy with art by Kev Walker, takes Marvel’s First Family into a nastier corner of science fiction. The story begins when a scientist’s curiosity unleashes ancient terrors on the world while transforming himself and three others in strange and horrifying ways.
Walker also provides the regular cover, joined by variants from Ryan Stegman, Ben Harvey, E.M. Gist, Jeehyung Lee, Clayton Crain, Leinil Francis Yu, and Rod Reis.
The third launch title may have the biggest creative headline. Jonathan Hickman writes Midnight X-Men #1 with art by Matteo Della Fonte, shifting the mutant struggle away from acceptance and toward something much more immediate: survival and blood.
Dike Ruan handles the regular cover, with additional covers by Ryan Stegman, Skan, Björn Barends, Jeehyung Lee, Clayton Crain, Alessandro Cappuccio, and Ito.
The trailer gives readers their first extended look at new artwork from all three books and sets the tone for a line that appears ready to lean hard into horror without abandoning the superhero identities at its core.
Midnight Spider-Man #1, Midnight Fantastic Four #1, and Midnight X-Men #1 all arrive in comic shops on October 7, 2026.
Marvel is positioning Midnight as an entry point for new readers and a fresh alternate take for longtime fans. Whether the shared mythology can deliver on that promise will become clear this fall, but the opening lineup is definitely swinging for something darker than business as usual.
