BRONZE STAR Rides Again! Mike Baron and Pat Broderick Bring Werewolves to the Wild West

·Al Mega

WEPAAAAAAAA! SIX-SHOOTERS, SILVER MINES AND WEREWOLVES? SOMEBODY GET ME A HORSE—WE’RE RIDING INTO THE WEIRD WEST!

Writer Mike Baron and artist Pat Broderick are bringing their creator-owned supernatural Western BRONZE STAR to comic shops, and the pitch is just deliciously bonkers: take a dusty 1880 frontier town, add a wanted gunslinger, stir in disappearances and finish with a monstrous secret that no sheriff’s badge can hide.

Originally published as crowdfunded graphic novels, Bronze Star is getting a four-issue direct-market release through American Mythology Comics and Lunar Distribution. Issue #1 hits stores January 27, 2027, with regular editions priced at $4.99.

The story follows wanted gunslinger Harley Brogden to Cobb’s Gap, a dying mining town where people vanish into an abandoned silver mine. The local sheriff is hiding something ugly, and if the supernatural trouble wasn’t enough, there’s plenty of old-fashioned Western danger waiting in the shadows.

Now THAT is a setting built for atmosphere. An abandoned mine is already creepy without anything growling inside it. Add a town full of secrets and the threat of werewolves, and you’ve got a story where every creaking floorboard and distant howl could mean trouble.

What grabs me is the genre collision. A Western is about people confronting lawlessness, survival and the limits of civilization. Horror asks what happens when the threat can’t be explained by ordinary rules. Put those two together and you can get a truly nasty little nightmare.

Baron, known for Nexus and The Badger, brings a long history of character-driven action comics. Broderick’s credits include Micronauts, Firestorm and Creature Commandos. Seeing these two veterans bring creator-owned work to comic-shop shelves is worth celebrating in its own right.

Cover collectors have four choices for the first issue: Broderick’s saloon-shootout Cover A; Anthony Gonzales-Clark’s haunted-mine Cover B; a virgin edition of the Gonzales-Clark artwork; and a limited black-and-white Broderick variant, capped at 100 copies, priced at $29.99.

Retailer initial preorder deadline: November 26, 2026.
Final order cutoff: December 28, 2026.
On sale: January 27, 2027.

Retailers can consult the Lunar catalog listing for the cover options.

Two respected creators, an indie property finding a new audience and a Wild West story with teeth—literally? I’m all in on keeping an eye on Bronze Star. Saddle up, Crusaders. WEPAAAA!
