Storm King Comics Unleashes Its 50th Graphic Novel with Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress — and the Summer Horror Lineup Is Looking DEADLY!

WEPA! Storm King Comics just hit a monster-sized milestone, and horror fans, this one deserves the slow clap under a full moon.
The leading independent horror and sci-fi publishing house has officially announced its 50th graphic novel, and they are not playing around. The milestone release is Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress, now available for pre-order and set to stalk its way onto shelves on June 9, 2026.
Written by LGBTQ+ author Neo Edmund and illustrated by the legendary Jan Duursema, Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress takes the classic Little Red Riding Hood myth, throws it into the moonlight, gives it fangs, powers, destiny, and says, “Nah, we’re not doing bedtime stories — we’re doing battle cries.”
The story follows seventeen-year-old Red Riding, who is suddenly pulled back home to Wayward Woods after receiving an ominous letter. You already know when a creepy letter shows up, nobody is going home for tea and cookies. Red reconnects with her grandmother and long-lost friends, but the reunion quickly turns into something much bigger as she discovers superpowers gifted to her by ancient lunar spirits. From there, Red rises into her true calling as the Alpha Huntress.
That’s right. Grandma’s house just became ground zero for supernatural destiny. Somebody lock the doors, sharpen the axes, and check the moon phase.
“Wow, we’ve hit another landmark at Storm King Comics: the publication of our fiftieth full-length graphic novel,” said Storm King Comics founder Sandy King. “As lifelong fans of classic monsters in literature, we’re excited to be releasing our first adaptation of a novel, Neo Edmund’s Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress, itself a modern retelling of the classic fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood. Onward to the next fifty! Thanks for being with us since number one.”
And that right there is the vibe. Storm King is not just celebrating a number. They are celebrating years of building a horror and sci-fi library with real bite, real atmosphere, and that old-school-meets-new-school genre love that keeps readers coming back.
Founded in 2012 as a division of Storm King Productions, Storm King Comics is led by writer, producer, and editor Sandy King. Alongside her husband, legendary director John Carpenter, King has built a publishing house focused on bringing top-tier writers from comics, film, and novels into the world of graphic storytelling. The mission has always been clear: deliver horror and sci-fi with mood, craft, imagination, and enough tension to make you side-eye the hallway after midnight.
And Storm King is not just dropping books — they are getting recognized.
Sandy King is currently nominated for her first-ever Bram Stoker Award, one of horror and dark fantasy’s premier honors, in the Superior Achievement in a Graphic Novel category for Tales for a HalloweeNight Vol. 11. That nomination places her alongside heavy hitters including Cullen Bunn and Danny Luckert, Daniel Kraus and Dani, Mike Mignola, and James Tynion IV, Steve Foxe and Piotr Kowalski.
Storm King Comics is also celebrating a 2026 Eisner Award nomination for Janice Chiang’s lettering on Blood of the Taken: Next of Kin and Tales of Science Fiction: Pause issues #1-3. So yes, the house of horror is making noise — and the industry is hearing those footsteps coming down the corridor.
But Storm King is not stopping at milestone number 50. Oh no, they are keeping the summer spooky, strange, and seriously stacked.

Coming July 7, 2026, fans can prepare for CHAPLAIN, a surreal and terrifying debut graphic novel co-written by Brad Sun and Rev. Wesley Sun, illustrated by acclaimed artist Raúlo Cáceres, colored by Ryan Winn, and lettered by Marshall Dillon. This one sounds like the kind of book that walks into the room quietly, then flips the whole table before you even know what happened.

Then on August 4, 2026, Storm King opens the doors to CATHEDRAL, the first original graphic novel written by John Carpenter, in collaboration with Sandy King and writer Sean Sobczak. The book features illustrations by Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna, colors by Sian Mandrake, and letters by Marshall Dillon.
And because Carpenter does not just enter a room — he scores the whole haunted building — fans can also get an early taste of CATHEDRAL through the visualizer for “Lord Of The Underground,” from the companion album arriving August 9 on Sacred Bones Records.
So let’s call it what it is: Storm King Comics is having a serious horror victory lap. Fifty graphic novels deep, awards recognition in the air, and a summer lineup loaded with monsters, mystery, spiritual dread, supernatural power, and enough genre energy to keep the lights on all night.
Upon reaching this massive publishing milestone, Storm King Comics is thanking the fans who helped make it possible. Because without the readers, collectors, horror heads, sci-fi loyalists, comic shop warriors, and late-night page-turners, this kind of run does not happen.
Fifty graphic novels is not just a number. It is proof of vision. Proof of grind. Proof that horror and sci-fi comics are alive, howling, and ready for the next chapter.
And with Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress, CHAPLAIN, and CATHEDRAL on the way, Storm King Comics is making one thing very clear:
The next fifty are already coming for us.
