Chuck Brown and Paulina Ganucheau Lead Dynamite’s Bloody Next Chapter as the Brothers Launch Separate Adventures This October
The Winchester brothers have fought demons, monsters, angels, gods, and enough supernatural foolishness to make any normal family stop speaking at Thanksgiving. This fall, however, the biggest threat to Sam and Dean might be the growing darkness between them.
Dynamite Entertainment is launching the next major chapter of its SUPERNATURAL comic book franchise, spinning the legendary brothers into two interconnected solo titles beginning this October. Following the best-selling series written by Greg Pak, the creative force behind World War Hulk and X-Men, writers Chuck Brown and Paulina Ganucheau are stepping behind the wheel and sending the Winchesters down two very different roads.
For the first time in the franchise’s comic book history, Sam and Dean will headline separate ongoing adventures, each facing personal demons, terrifying new cases, and the consequences of whatever tore them apart. The breakup begins this September in SUPERNATURAL: WAYWARD, a special issue written by Paulina Ganucheau and illustrated by John Amor.
Sam and Dean have always been bound by blood, purpose, and a mutual talent for running directly toward things that would make the rest of us change our phone numbers and leave town. This time, however, hellish forces threaten to push the brothers beyond their breaking point and send them traveling separate paths. Once October arrives, fans will get twice the monsters, twice the mysteries, and twice the Winchester drama as the brothers launch their own solo investigations. The real question is not simply whether Sam and Dean can survive apart. It is how long they can remain separated, what happened between them, and what kind of nightmare could possibly bring them back together.
In SUPERNATURAL: DEAN WINCHESTER, Eisner Award-winning writer Chuck Brown, known for Aquamen, Black Manta, and Dejah Thoris, teams with artist Rapha Lobosco of Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living. Their story finds the elder Winchester bruised, bitter, and alone in the boozy, shadow-filled streets of New Orleans. It is Mardi Gras in the Big Easy, which means the city is overflowing with colorful characters, crowded celebrations, dark alleyways, and enough creepy energy to make even Dean Winchester keep one hand close to the weapons bag.
Dean is determined to solve a case his father could never close. The deeper he digs, however, the uglier the truth becomes. Finishing John Winchester’s unfinished business may require Dean to do the unthinkable. He might have to murder a god.
“I’ve been a fan of Supernatural since day one,” said writer Chuck Brown. “Writing Dean is going to be wild as he revisits his past case down south.”
While Dean is hunting through New Orleans, SUPERNATURAL: SAM WINCHESTER sends the younger brother into an entirely different kind of darkness. Following the events of WAYWARD, writer Paulina Ganucheau, whose credits include Disney Villains: Maleficent, The Powerpuff Girls, and Lemon Bird: Can Help!, joins rising artist Kendall Goode, known for The Terminator and Dirtbag Rapture. Sam has done something to Dean that he can never take back. Carrying that guilt, Sam is drawn toward an abandoned town hidden deep within Appalachia. Cryptic phone calls lead him into a mystery older than the mountains surrounding him, where forgotten secrets and ancient eldritch horrors are waiting beneath the silence. Sam Winchester has faced the end of the world more than once, but this case is not just coming for his life. It is coming for his mind, his soul, and whatever remains of his relationship with Dean.
“Supernatural is something that is a part of my DNA,” said Ganucheau. “So getting this opportunity is a treasure. I can’t wait to take readers and Sam along on an isolatingly perilous journey of tears and horrors.”
Both titles will arrive with collectible cover programs designed to give longtime fans and variant hunters plenty to chase. SUPERNATURAL: DEAN WINCHESTER will feature covers from Marguerite Sauvage and Rapha Lobosco, along with two photo covers showcasing Dean’s iconic likeness. Ganucheau will also provide cover artwork for SUPERNATURAL: SAM WINCHESTER, joining Kendall Goode and two additional photo covers spotlighting Sam.
Collectors looking to test their luck can also grab mystery blind bag editions for both series. These packages may include premium variants such as logo-free covers, line-art presentations, and other exclusive editions. Because apparently hunting monsters was not stressful enough. Now fans get to hunt chase covers too. Respect.
Readers will need to follow both titles to uncover the full mystery behind the Winchester split, with Dean and Sam’s individual cases unfolding as connected pieces of one larger supernatural nightmare. The brothers may be wayward for now, but Dynamite is already teasing even more shocking stories ahead, including the eventual reunion of television’s most famous monster-hunting family.
Dean is chasing a god through New Orleans. Sam is answering mysterious calls from an abandoned Appalachian town. Something terrible stands between them, and this October, the Winchester family business is officially operating on two separate roads.
