Part of the Comic Crusaders 20-Year Anniversary Celebration.
Back in 2006, the comic world looked very different. Independent creators were still fighting to find platforms that would spotlight their work. At the same time, a fan-driven media site dedicated to uplifting creators was still a new idea. That moment is where Comic Crusaders found its purpose.
Over time, what began as a website grew into something much bigger. Reviews led to interviews. Interviews led to relationships. Eventually, the Comic Crusaders Podcast was born. Suddenly creators from across the comic industry legends, rising stars, and indie innovators were sitting down to share their journeys. More than 650 podcast episodes later, those conversations remain one of the most rewarding parts of the crusade.
Looking back on the journey, there are countless creators who helped shape the Comic Crusaders story. Far too many to name in a single article. However, certain voices stand out because their creativity, passion, and generosity helped define the spirit of the crusade. Creators like Christopher Priest immediately come to mind. His groundbreaking storytelling has influenced generations of comic readers and creators. Sitting down to talk comics with someone whose work helped redefine the industry reminds you why this medium matters so much.
Greg Weisman also brought that sense of creative history to the Comic Crusaders platform. His work across animation and comics has inspired fans for decades. Because of that legacy, conversations with creators like Greg remind us that great storytelling can live across many worlds. Meanwhile, modern comic powerhouses continue pushing the medium forward. Writers like Mark Russell demonstrate how comics can blend satire, heart, and powerful ideas in ways that challenge readers while still entertaining them.
Comic Crusaders has also had the honor of welcoming creators who represent the evolving voice of the industry. Writers and industry leaders like Todd McFarlane, Joe Illidge, David Pepose, Ed Brisson, Ethan Sacks, and David Avallone continue shaping the comic landscape today. Todd McFarlane, the legendary creator of Spawn and founder of Image Comics, stands as one of the most influential figures in modern comics. His career proved that artists and writers could take control of their own creative destiny. That spirit of independence changed the industry forever.
For nearly two decades, the crusade has proudly spotlighted creators who build worlds from pure passion. These storytellers are not waiting for the industry to give them permission to create. Instead, they create their own opportunities.
Brian Volk-Weiss brings another fascinating dimension to the Comic Crusaders journey. As the founder of The Nacelle Company and the creative force behind hit documentary series like The Toys That Made Us and The Movies That Made Us, Volk-Weiss has helped celebrate the history of pop culture for fans around the world. Through projects like the NacelleVerse and his work spotlighting beloved franchises, Brian continues to bridge nostalgia, storytelling, and fandom in ways that perfectly align with the Comic Crusaders mission.
Kane Gallagher brings the same fearless spirit to storytelling. His work shows that independent comics remain one of the most exciting spaces in the entire industry. Fred Littles represents another powerful example of dedication. As both a comic creator and a member of the United States Air Force, his journey reflects discipline, creativity, and perseverance. Amin Amat adds another dimension to the crusade. His artistic voice highlights the global nature of comics in the modern era.
The independent spirit of Comic Crusaders also shines through creators like Edward Brown, Alim Leggett, and Ruben Najera. These creators continue building incredible stories while growing passionate fan communities around their work. Their journeys prove something Comic Crusaders has always believed: powerful storytelling can come from anywhere.
At the same time, creators like Jake Mastar bring new creative energy into the mix. His work bridges animation, manga influences, and modern comic storytelling. Keith Arem represents another fascinating intersection of media. His career across gaming, film, and comics shows how storytelling now moves fluidly across mediums. Joe Illidge represents another powerful voice in the evolution of modern comics. As a respected editor, writer, and advocate for diverse storytelling, Illidge has played a key role in shaping the industry behind the scenes. From his influential editorial work with DC Comics and Milestone Media to championing new voices in comics culture, Joe Illidge continues to push the medium forward while reminding the industry that representation and creativity go hand in hand.

Each of them shared their creativity, passion, and experience with the Comic Crusaders community. And that’s what makes Comic Crusaders special. These aren’t just interviews. They are conversations.
Creators come on the show and talk honestly about the journey. They talk about sleepless nights finishing scripts, the excitement of launching a Kickstarter campaign, and the thrill of finally holding their book in their hands.
Those moments built the Comic Crusaders community. Fans do not simply discover new comics here. They discover the people behind the stories. After twenty incredible years, one truth stands above everything else.
Comic Crusaders was never about building a media brand. Instead, it became a platform for creators. A place where writers, artists, filmmakers, and dreamers can share their stories. A place where fans discover incredible work they might never have found otherwise. Most importantly, a place where the love of comics always comes first.
To every creator who has shared their journey with Comic Crusaders over the years thank you. You didn’t just appear on the show. You helped define the crusade. And after twenty years of celebrating creators, one thing is certain. The best chapters of Comic Crusaders are still ahead.
WEPAAAAAAA…!
For nearly twenty years, Comic Crusaders has proudly covered comic book creators, indie comic launches, Kickstarter campaigns, and interviews with storytellers shaping the industry. Through the Comic Crusaders Podcast and the Comic Crusaders website, fans continue discovering new creators, new stories, and the incredible passion that keeps the comic industry thriving.
Of course, these twenty creators represent only a small piece of the Comic Crusaders journey. Over the past two decades, hundreds of writers, artists, editors, filmmakers, publishers, and dreamers have shared their stories with our community. Indie creators launching their first Kickstarter. Industry veterans reflecting on careers that shaped the medium. New voices stepping into comics with fearless imagination. Every conversation, every interview, and every article added another thread to the tapestry that became Comic Crusaders.
To every creator who trusted us with their story, who took the time to sit down for a conversation, who shared their work with our readers and listeners, thank you. You helped build something bigger than a website or a podcast. You helped build a community that celebrates creativity, passion, and the endless possibilities of storytelling.
And if the first twenty years of Comic Crusaders taught us anything, it’s this: the next generation of creators is already out there right now, drawing late into the night, writing new worlds into existence, and preparing to share stories that will inspire the next wave of fans.
Comic Crusaders will be right here to celebrate them.
