DC has found its Scott Free and Big Barda!

Josh Hutcherson will voice Mister Miracle, with Mackenzie Davis voicing Barda in the upcoming adult animated series. TheWrap reports that DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran revealed the casting during an interview with IGN. This is a voice-cast announcement, familia, not a live-action movie reveal.

That distinction matters because these characters deserve attention for the story being made now, not a hypothetical crossover somebody already has mapped out on a whiteboard. Hutcherson and Davis are taking on a central relationship with real emotional weight. Scott and Barda are more than two colorful additions to a superhero roster.

The series adapts the Eisner Award-winning, 12-issue Mister Miracle comic by Tom King and Mitch Gerads. King serves as showrunner and executive producer, according to DC and Warner Bros. Animation’s original announcement. That creator connection is the strongest reason to keep an eye on the adaptation: the writer behind the comic is helping guide its move to animation.

The premise puts Scott and Barda’s life on Earth against a war involving Apokolips, New Genesis and Darkseid’s pursuit of control through the Anti-Life Equation. The threat is not confined to a cosmic battlefield. Scott’s perception of his own reality and the happiness he has built with Barda are part of the conflict. Escaping a trap is one thing. Deciding whether you can trust the world around you is another kind of nightmare.

Animation is not shorthand for a lighter assignment here. DC announced Mister Miracle specifically as an adult animated series, with a story built around trauma, survival, love and a fractured sense of reality. The adaptation has an opportunity to make its enormous mythology feel painfully personal. Whether it delivers on that promise is something the finished show will have to prove.

No premiere date accompanied this casting report, and the lead roles do not establish confirmed live-action appearances. For now, the news is Hutcherson as Scott, Davis as Barda and King’s comic moving toward the screen.
