After Impact sci-fi thriller official trailer image

Freestyle Digital Media is bringing a new post-apocalyptic survival story to digital platforms this September with After Impact, a sci-fi thriller built around isolation, endurance, and the question of how much humanity a person can hold onto when the world falls apart.

The film follows Ethan Nichols, who inherits one of the country’s largest greenhouses from his recently deceased father at the worst possible moment. An asteroid is approaching Earth, society is beginning to crack under the pressure, and Ethan is already dealing with betrayal and grief before the larger disaster even arrives.

When the situation becomes impossible to ignore, Ethan retreats to his family’s bunker and survives the impact. Making it through the initial catastrophe does not mean he is safe. Injured and cut off from the outside world, Ethan is left with silence, uncertainty, and the growing possibility that he may be completely alone.

A faint voice eventually breaks through his radio and changes the equation. The signal offers hope, but it also gives Ethan a reason to keep moving through a world that has already taken nearly everything from him. The premise puts the physical dangers of a disaster movie next to a more intimate story about loneliness, emotional survival, and the weight people carry into extreme situations.

Filmmaker Michiel Rensen has described the project as a story about growing up and learning how to carry personal pain without dragging other people down with it. His own shorthand for the film’s genre wrapping is perfect: We just disguised that story as a disaster movie.

Watch the trailer:

Rensen writes, directs, produces, and stars in After Impact as Ethan. Liam Carter co-directs and serves as executive producer. The cast also includes Maxie Ouyang as Jessie, Will Clague as Connor, Riki Antonievich as Jack, and Lee-Ann Dirks as Sophie.

The combination of creator and lead actor gives the film a tightly focused indie identity, especially for a story built around a character spending long stretches isolated from the rest of the world. Rather than leaning only on spectacle, the setup gives Rensen room to make the emotional deterioration and rebuilding of Ethan part of the actual survival challenge.

Freestyle Digital Media, the digital distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, acquired North American VOD rights directly from the filmmakers and Zac Reeder of Lucky 27 Media.

After Impact is scheduled to debut on September 15, 2026 across North American digital HD, VOD, DVD, cable, and satellite platforms. Current digital listings include Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube Movies, and Cable On Demand.
