RYL0 Drops “Power Trip” And Yeah… Spotify Already Put It Where It Belongs

·Al Mega

The trip-hop-laced new single marks the third release from RYL0’s upcoming debut album and “Power Trip” just landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. Somebody check the speakers, because this one’s got voltage.

Coinciding with Juneteenth, Black electro-pop artist RYL0 steps into the spotlight with her latest single, “Power Trip,” the third release from her upcoming debut album. And let’s not play cute here this track is not just another “new music Friday, toss it in the pile” situation. Nah. This is one of those records that walks into the room quiet, then flips the table when the bass hits.

Co-written with indie pop standout Sophie Cates, known for songwriting work connected to artists like Daya and Flume, and produced by Taydex and AOBeats, “Power Trip” brings that trip-hop smoke with a whole futuristic glow-up. It’s dreamy, bruised, electronic, emotional, and just distorted enough to make your headphones feel like they’re holding a secret.

The track has already landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist, which is basically the streaming gods saying, “Yeah, people need to hear this.” And they’re not wrong.

“Power Trip” follows RYL0’s previous singles, the umru collaboration “Downfall” and the lush dance-pop anthem “Gold.” But where those tracks showed different shades of confidence, fantasy, and self-mythology, “Power Trip” digs deeper into the machinery. This one feels like the moment after the crown gets heavy. The party lights are still flashing, but now we’re in the corner asking, “Yo… what did all this power actually cost?”

That’s where RYL0 shines.

The song opens with organic textures wrapped in electronic mist plucked strings, piano, synth pads, and these ghostly background vocals that float through the track like they got unfinished business. Then RYL0 comes in with vocals that feel raw, wounded, and locked in. There’s beauty here, but not the polished plastic kind. This is cracked-glass beauty. The kind that cuts if you grab it wrong.

Early in the track, she sings of “higher power,” darkness, reflection, and building herself up inside her own tower a lyrical shift that pulls her away from the bold strut of “Downfall” and the golden delusion of “Gold.” “Power Trip” feels more isolated, more internal, more haunted. It’s giving “I survived the storm, but don’t ask me what it took,” and honestly? That hits.

Then the chorus arrives and the whole thing detonates.

Distorted bass punches through the mix like somebody kicked open the studio door with a subwoofer strapped to their chest. It’s sudden, nasty, emotional, and beautiful in that “my feelings have a demolition permit” kind of way. The contrast is the magic: delicate atmosphere one second, trunk-rattling chaos the next. RYL0 doesn’t just sing through the noise she weaponizes it.

That balance is what makes “Power Trip” work so well. It’s not trying to be one thing. It’s vulnerable and aggressive. Elegant and messy. Mythic and modern. Angelic vocals drift over production that sounds like it was built in a dream and then dragged through a thunderstorm. That’s not easy to pull off, but RYL0 makes it feel natural.

And this isn’t random sonic experimentation either. “Power Trip” continues the visual and thematic world RYL0 has been building across this era, pulling from a palette rooted in Greek mythology while expanding the story around her upcoming debut album. With every single, the world gets sharper. “Downfall” opened the door. “Gold” lit the temple. “Power Trip” makes you wonder what monster is hiding under the marble floor.

That commitment to world-building has been part of RYL0’s DNA for a minute. Projects like Last Resort: Beach Club helped her cultivate a devoted underground pop following the kind of fanbase that doesn’t just stream the song, they decode the visuals, argue theories, and treat every release like a new chapter in the sacred text. You know the vibe. Pop nerds with taste and Wi-Fi. Dangerous combination.

Over the past several years, the New Jersey-born, Los Angeles-based artist has been steadily carving out her lane, opening for acts like Arca, underscores, Ayesha Erotica, Kero Kero Bonito, Namasenda, Alice Longyu Gao, and more. She has also collaborated with artists including That Kid, Fraxiom, and Corin Roddick of Purity Ring, while recently headlining Whole Earth Festival 2026.

So yeah, “Power Trip” is a single. But it also feels like a statement.

RYL0 is not just rolling out songs. She’s building a world, piece by piece, sound by sound, myth by myth. And with “Power Trip,” that world gets darker, louder, and way more dangerous.

Run the track. Add it to the playlist. Let the bass mess up your posture a little.

RYL0 is entering album mode, and from the sound of this one?

The power is very much on.
