One of film noir’s meanest little masterpieces is getting the deluxe treatment. Eureka Entertainment has announced that Fritz Lang’s Scarlet Street will arrive in the UK on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on November 23, 2026, as part of the acclaimed Masters of Cinema series.
The new Dual Format release marks the first time Scarlet Street has been presented on 4K UHD and Blu-ray in the UK. The limited edition is capped at 2,000 copies and includes an O-card slipcase, interior packaging designed by Nick Wrigley, and a collector’s booklet featuring a new essay by film scholar Barry Nevin alongside archival material.
Directed by Fritz Lang and released in 1945, Scarlet Street reunites Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea after The Woman in the Window. Robinson stars as Christopher “Chris” Cross, a long-suffering cashier trapped in a loveless marriage who becomes infatuated with Kitty March, played by Bennett. When Kitty mistakes him for a wealthy artist, Chris lets the misunderstanding breathe a little too long, and her boyfriend Johnny Prince, played by Duryea, sees an opportunity. From there, the con starts cooking and everybody involved learns that noir rarely hands out participation trophies.
The film is based on Georges de La Fouchardière’s novel La Chienne, previously adapted by Jean Renoir. Lang’s version became a box-office success but also drew controversy for its grim subject matter and unusually complicated view of crime, guilt and punishment.
The release is sourced from a 4K restoration of the 35mm nitrate composite fine grain and includes a 2160p UHD presentation, a 1080p Blu-ray presentation, original mono audio and optional English subtitles.
Extras include an audio commentary by noir expert Imogen Sara Smith, a new David Cairns video essay featuring the voice of director Alexander Payne as Darryl F. Zanuck, a new appreciation of the film by Sheldon Hall, and a new Joan Bennett career interview with Pamela Hutchinson. The package also includes three classic Suspense radio episodes starring Edward G. Robinson.
Scarlet Street will be released in the UK on November 23, 2026. The limited Dual Format 4K UHD and Blu-ray edition carries catalogue number EKA70649 and is priced at £34.99 RRP.
For classic movie collectors, noir heads and anybody who likes their morality tales served with a straight razor under the napkin, this one belongs on the radar!
