Gaming Crusaders Review: Spica Adventure
·Gabriel Mateo

Spica Adventure hits that retro arcade vibe right away. The pixel art pops, the colors are bright, and the whole thing feels like a modern take on a classic Taito platformer. The umbrella mechanic is the star of the show. You’re not just swinging it you’re attacking, gliding, bouncing, blocking, and using it for movement tricks. It gives the game a unique feel that separates it from other retro‑style platformers.

The timer system adds pressure in a good way. It gives the game that Sonic‑style push to keep moving, and the giant robot chasing you at the end of the stage is a great touch. It keeps the energy high and makes every run feel like a race. The boss fights fit the vibe too. They’re pattern‑based, fun to learn, and they hit that old‑school arcade rhythm.
The graphics are clean and polished. Everything important stands out, and the animations are smooth. The soundtrack is another highlight. It has that classic Sega/Taito energy, fast, upbeat, and perfect for a timer‑driven platformer. It really helps sell the retro feel without sounding dated.

The mechanics are tight, the levels are fun, and the umbrella system gives you enough variety to keep experimenting. Spica Adventure doesn’t try to be something huge. It knows exactly what it is, a polished, fast, retro platformer with a cool gimmick and it nails it.
