Don Chin’s cult-classic hamster warriors return for their 40th anniversary with remastered complete volumes, Kickstarter extras, and enough black-and-white boom chaos to make your long boxes nervous.
Dynamite Entertainment is bringing back a true indie comics oddball legend with a limited-time Kickstarter campaign for Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters, the classic action-parody series created by Don Chin.
First launched in 1986 during the wild black-and-white comics boom, these furry martial arts maniacs came swinging out of the same era that turned indie publishing into a beautiful madhouse. Yeah, there were plenty of funny animal parody books running around back then, but the Hamsters had their own flavor: fast, ridiculous, scrappy, and packed with that “somebody let the creators cook” energy.
Now, for the big 40th anniversary, Dynamite is collecting the Hamsters’ classic adventures into two fully remastered volumes. Fans can grab paperbacks, hardcovers, a slipcase edition, signed editions, remarqued editions by Don Chin himself, and more. That’s not a pledge tier, that’s a buffet.
Volume 1 collects Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters #1-9, Escape from New York, and Clint: Hamster Triumphant #1-2.
Volume 2 brings the madness with Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters 3-D #1-4, Massacre the Japanese Invasion, The Lost Treasures, and the 2008 series #1-4.
Each book clocks in at over 300 pages of martial arts mayhem, parody madness, and pure indie-comics history. Volume 2 even includes the 3D comics experience, complete with 3D glasses, because apparently regular chaos was not chaotic enough.
Across the years, the Hamsters’ saga featured contributions from Don Chin alongside Patrick Parsons, Sam Kieth, Brent Anderson, Michael Avon-Oeming, Bill Maus, Tom Sutton, Ron Lim, Gary Bloomfield, Moose Baumann, and more.
The Hamsters are back. The kicks are radioactive. The nostalgia is armed and dangerous.
