AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: SYMBIE #1 REVEALS THE WEIRD LITTLE GLOB’S SECRET ORIGIN!

·Al Mega

Amazing Spider-Man: Symbie #1 cover by Pepe Larraz

Marvel’s newest little symbiote sensation is finally getting the spotlight, and yeah, this weird little glob has some explaining to do. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: SYMBIE #1 arrives this December with a one-shot digging into the mysterious past of Symbie and revealing how this pint-sized piece of symbiote chaos came to be.

The character has already managed to grab attention in Spider-Man’s increasingly crowded corner of the Marvel Universe, which is saying something when you consider how many symbiotes, clones, goblins and assorted lunatics Peter Parker has accumulated over the years. Now Marvel is pulling back the curtain and giving readers the origin story.

The one-shot promises to expand Symbie’s connection to the larger Spider-Man mythology while giving the character room to become more than another cute creature hanging around the edges of somebody else’s story. That is the part that has our attention. Marvel has turned unexpected supporting characters into fan favorites before, and Symbie certainly has the visual personality to make a run at it, especially after the broader symbiote spotlight we saw around Kid Venom’s move into the main Marvel Universe.

And because this is Spider-Man, expect the origin to come with complications. Symbiote history is rarely clean, simple or remotely healthy, so whatever Marvel reveals about this little dude probably is not going to be all cuddles and merchandising opportunities.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: SYMBIE #1 hits comic shops this December. If Symbie has already won you over, this is the issue that finally tells you where the little menace came from. If you have been wondering why everybody keeps talking about him, consider this your introduction.
