After Armageddon, The Avengers Rise Again in Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s Explosive New #1!

·Al Mega

Marvel is lighting the fuse on a brand-new era of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and this one is not coming in quietly. This November, superstar creative duo Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto reunite for a bold new ongoing AVENGERS series that spins directly out of the upcoming Avengers: Armageddon limited series. And familia, from the sound of it, this is not just another team relaunch. This is Marvel handing the Avengers the keys to a broken world, a shaken universe, and a whole lot of unfinished business.

The road to this new chapter begins with Avengers: Armageddon, the five-issue limited series by Chip Zdarsky, Delio Diaz, and Frank Alpizar, launching June 10. That story promises to reshape the Marvel Universe in a major way, leaving Earth transformed, unstable, and in desperate need of heroes. But here is the twist: this world may need the Avengers more than ever, even if it no longer knows whether it can trust them.

That is a spicy setup right there. The kind of comic book chaos that makes you sit up, crack your knuckles, and say, “Okay Marvel, you got my attention.”

This new AVENGERS #1 introduces a fresh lineup being billed as Earth’s Mightiest Survivors, and that name hits different. We are not just talking about heroes standing tall after another cosmic rumble. We are talking about a team forged in the wreckage, built from legends, street-level warriors, heavy hitters, and wild cards. The announced roster includes Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and a brand-new hero set to make an explosive debut soon.

That lineup alone is enough to make comic shops shake. Spider-Man brings the heart. Wolverine brings the claws and the smoke. Captain Marvel brings cosmic firepower. Daredevil brings grit, faith, and fists. Luke Cage brings unbreakable leadership and street-level soul. Add a mystery newcomer into the mix, and now we are cooking with super-powered gasoline.

Chip Zdarsky is stepping into one of the biggest jobs in comics, and he knows exactly how massive this moment is. Speaking about taking on Marvel’s flagship superhero team, Zdarsky called it a huge honor to write “the world’s greatest super hero team,” while teasing that after the events of Avengers: Armageddon, this lineup is “angry as hell and ready to avenge.”

That right there tells you the tone. These are not polished heroes posing for a group photo while the world claps. These are survivors. These are heroes carrying bruises, grudges, trauma, and probably a few bad decisions in their back pockets. In other words, the good stuff.

Zdarsky also made it clear that AVENGERS should be the book where the Marvel Universe moves forward, where big things happen, where surprises hit hard, and where every issue feels like it matters. That is exactly the kind of energy fans want from an Avengers title. Big stakes. Big emotion. Big swings. Not filler. Not background noise. Main-event storytelling.

And then there is Marco Checchetto. Come on now. The man is a visual powerhouse. His work with Zdarsky on Daredevil already proved these two creators have that special chemistry, the kind where story and art move like they are locked into the same heartbeat. Now they are bringing that fire to AVENGERS, and if you have seen what Checchetto can do with street-level intensity, dramatic action, and cinematic character moments, you already know this book is going to look absolutely ridiculous in the best way.

Checchetto said he is thrilled to reunite with Zdarsky after their time on Daredevil and after wrapping up Ultimate Spider-Man, adding that moments like this are where Chip’s “utter madness” comes through. That is exactly what you want to hear from a creative team taking over the Avengers. Give us the madness. Give us the spectacle. Give us the emotional punches and the jaw-dropping pages.

Checchetto also shared his excitement about this team, especially the way these characters will interact and how they will try to untangle themselves from the dangerous situations being thrown at them. Translation? Expect sparks. Expect tension. Expect personality clashes. Expect Spider-Man to say something at the worst possible time, Wolverine to be two seconds away from stabbing the problem, and Daredevil to somehow be the moral center while also getting punched through a wall. Comics, baby.

Editor Wil Moss is already hyping this as a major new direction for Marvel’s flagship team, describing Zdarsky and Checchetto’s vision as balancing quality and spectacle, legacy and bold reinvention, strong characterization and shocking new takes. Moss also teased that this new AVENGERS run will become the heart of the Marvel Universe going forward.

That is not a small statement. That is Marvel planting a flag.

The publisher is also making AVENGERS #1 part of its True Believers Blind Bags program, with each bag containing an exclusive variant cover unavailable through regular ordering. Some bags will even include one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn sketch covers by surprise contributors. Collectors, you already know what time it is. Hide the wallet, because November is coming for your pull list like Thanos with a coupon code.

More announcements are still on the way, including additional story details, variant cover reveals, and the full roster. And that last part is key, because Marvel is clearly holding back some surprises. The team we know already has major firepower, but the tease of the “full roster” means there may be even more heavy hitters waiting in the shadows.

The path to AVENGERS #1 begins with AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON #1, hitting shelves June 10. That is where the dominoes start falling, the Marvel Universe starts shifting, and the road to Earth’s Mightiest Survivors officially begins.

So buckle up, Crusaders. Zdarsky and Checchetto are back together, the Avengers are angry, Earth is broken, and Marvel is about to find out what happens when its mightiest heroes are no longer just protecting the world.

They are avenging it.
