A Comic Campaign Built Around Storytelling and Childhood Healing
Tales from Twisted Ravens: Anne began during creator Carrow Brown’s recovery from cancer surgery after a conversation with ComicBooks for Kids about how comics can help children facing long hospital stays and treatment.
The project grew from a simple idea: stories can do more than entertain. They can provide comfort, distraction, hope, and emotional escape for children during difficult moments.
The series itself is a dark fantasy comic centered around children who discover a mysterious wishing shop where every wish comes with consequences. While imaginative and adventurous, the stories also explore fear, grief, courage, and resilience in a way that respects younger readers instead of talking down to them.
Through a partnership with ComicBooks for Kids, support for the campaign helps place comics into hospitals and cancer centers across the United States, with additional outreach into Canada where possible. Books are distributed under strict hospital safety protocols to ensure they safely reach children undergoing treatment.
The long-term goal of the campaign is to help raise $50,000 through book sales and donations to support ComicBooks for Kids’ continued expansion into more hospitals, clinics, and care centers. Funding would also help strengthen operational support for the organization as demand continues to grow.
“Tales from Twisted Ravens is about proving stories can still matter beyond entertainment,” Brown said. “If a comic can help a child feel less alone for even a few minutes, then the work means something larger than sales numbers.”
Campaign supporters are not only helping fund an independent comic project, but also helping expand access to books for children navigating some of the hardest moments of their lives.
