CREEPSHOW VOL. 5 #2 LOCKS HORROR INSIDE THE CELLBLOCK

Wepa! Skybound and Image Comics are cracking open the crypt again with Creepshow Vol. 5 #2, and this issue sounds like exactly the kind of nasty little double feature you want sitting in your pull pile when October starts getting dark early.

The issue brings two new horror stories built around punishment, devotion and the kind of consequences that tend to get very ugly in the world of Creepshow. The first comes from Chris Killian, Andrew Sanders and Baldemar Rivas, following a former corrections officer who winds up imprisoned in the same cellblock he used to patrol. That is already a nightmare setup before you even start wondering how many people inside remember exactly how he treated them.

The second story comes from Tyler Crook and takes the horror in a different direction, following a husband so devoted to protecting the people he loves that apparently death itself is not enough to make him clock out. Skybound describes it as a story that reaches beyond the grave, which feels right at home in an anthology that has always enjoyed making sentimentality and body horror shake hands.

Creepshow Vol. 5 #2 features a main cover by Kyle Hotz and Dan Brown, with open-to-order variants from Baldemar Rivas and Luana Vecchio. The larger fifth volume also has a stacked roster that includes Stephanie Williams, Brian Witten, Yasmin Angoe, Lorenzo De Felici, Tyler Boss, Francesca Ciregia, Joshua Hixson, Leandro Fernandez and more.

The comic series continues the tradition of the Shudder television series produced and licensed by Evoke Entertainment Company, packing two self-contained horror stories into every issue. That format is still one of the smartest things about Creepshow. You can get in, get grossed out, get hit with a nasty little ending and then immediately do it again.
