The landmark Latino superhero created by Héctor Rodríguez III is celebrating its anniversary by opening the gates to something fresh, dangerous, and completely creator-driven: Absolutamente El Peso Hero. First one charging out the gate? EL TORO.

Written by screenwriter Marcelo Rodriguez, known for his work with Trouble Maker Studios, and illustrated by rising artist Delvis Cortez, El Toro takes the spirit surrounding El Peso Hero into darker, stranger territory while keeping one boot firmly planted in the dust, pain, and complicated reality of the borderlands.

At the center of the story is a teenage boy searching the desert for the ghost of his missing father. His journey turns supernatural when he reaches for his father’s hand and is pulled into a sinkhole leading straight into the underworld. Beneath the earth, submerged in mysterious blue waters, something changes. The kid who climbs back out ain’t the same one who fell in.

He emerges transformed into El Toro, a horned, bull-powered force of nature armed with superhuman strength and one very personal mission: return home and confront the cartels responsible for his father’s disappearance.

Rodriguez describes the story as his own interpretation of the mythology, adapted from a film concept he developed years earlier. That cinematic DNA runs all through the premise. You can practically hear the soundtrack kicking in when this kid crawls back from the underworld ready to collect receipts. But underneath the supernatural action is something heavier. El Toro is fueled by grief, family, folklore, violence, identity, and the kind of pain that can either bury somebody or turn them into something powerful.

Cortez meets that energy head-on with artwork built around heavy blacks, explosive action, and a gritty atmosphere that makes Nuevo Laredo feel both painfully real and pulled from legend. The imagery doesn’t just sell the punches. It sells the mythology.

That’s what makes Absolutamente El Peso Hero such an interesting move for the franchise. Héctor Rodríguez III isn’t simply revisiting what already worked. He’s allowing other creators to step inside the world, bring their own perspective, and push the mythology into places readers may never expect.

For an independent character hitting the 15-year milestone, that’s how you keep a universe alive. You don’t lock the legend in a museum. You let talented creators grab the wheel and see where the road takes them. El Toro will be available exclusively as an add-on through the official El Peso Hero: Guardian of the Borderlands 15th Anniversary Kickstarter and will not be offered elsewhere.
