LetterMyComic Wants to Make Professional Comic Lettering Faster, Easier and Way More Affordable

The browser-based platform gives independent creators professional lettering tools without costly software, long turnaround times or per-page fees.

Creating an independent comic is already expensive enough before lettering enters the chat. Between artists, colorists, editors, printing and promotion, every page adds another bill to the pile. LetterMyComic aims to remove one of those headaches by bringing professional comic lettering directly into your web browser, with no installation or Illustrator subscription required.

The idea was born from some brutally simple math. Hiring a freelance letterer can cost around $20 per page and involve a turnaround of roughly three weeks. For a standard 32-page comic, that can mean spending approximately $640 and waiting most of a month before the issue is ready to move forward. Produce four books per year, and lettering alone could cost about $2,560.

LetterMyComic’s annual plan costs $160 and includes unlimited pages. For a creator producing four 32-page books, that works out to roughly $1.25 per page instead of $20. More importantly, creators can work at their own pace rather than depending on somebody else’s production queue. The platform recreates a professional balloon-lettering workflow online and includes tools for dialogue, captions and sound effects.
