Marvel celebrates Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month as Josh Trujillo, Rafael Loureiro, Juan Ponce, Andy Pereira and Humberto Ramos launch Sam Alexander into a high-stakes cosmic battle for the legendary Ten Rings.
Sam Alexander is back and Marvel is not easing him into the action. Nope. Nova is being launched straight into a cosmic collision involving the Ten Rings of Power, a dangerous new bearer and a plot that could place the entire galaxy in jeopardy.
Arriving this October, Nova: Return of the Rings #1 is a special Marvel’s Voices one-shot celebrating Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month. Written by Josh Trujillo (Planet of the Apes Vs. Fantastic Four) with artwork by Rafael Loureiro (Dazzler), the issue marks the impactful return of one of Marvel’s most beloved young heroes while kicking off a major new saga centered on the legendary Ten Rings.
The issue will also feature a bonus story written by Juan Ponce (Redwing: Independence Day Infinity Comic) and illustrated by Andy Pereira (Wiccan: Witches’ Road). While Sam may spend his days racing across the universe, battling impossible threats and carrying the weight of the Nova legacy, this additional story explores another responsibility that matters just as much: being there for his family. Because saving the galaxy is complicated enough. Trying to balance that with family life? Ay, benditogood luck, kid.
The Ten Rings of Power were deemed far too dangerous to remain on Earth and were launched into the deepest reaches of space, where everyone hoped they would stay safely out of reach. Naturally, this is the Marvel Universe, so that plan lasted about as long as an unattended Infinity Stone. The rings have broken containment.
Now, one of the Ten Rings has returned to Earth in the possession of a mysterious new bearer with ambitions that go far beyond causing a little neighborhood trouble. This fierce new enemy intends to seize Worldmind, the sentient supercomputer connected to the Nova Corps, and use its extraordinary power as the opening move in a campaign of galactic domination. Standing directly between this would-be conqueror and his target is Sam Alexander, A.K.A. Nova.
Sam will need more than speed, courage and the raw power of his Nova helmet to survive what is coming. With the Ten Rings back in play, the consequences could extend across the entire Marvel Universe. To meet the challenge, Sam must draw strength from the heroes who inspired him, the experiences that shaped him and the family roots that keep him grounded when the universe starts going sideways.
“It’s such a thrill to write for one of Marvel’s biggest teen heroes!” Trujillo shared. “With so many memorable stories behind him, Sam Alexander is uniquely qualified to take on this threat! This is a high-stakes adventure with a fierce villain, and huge consequences for the entire Marvel Universe. To save the day, Sam will be drawing inspiration from his fellow heroes, and also his familial roots.”
“Everything has led to this moment!” he continued. “I hope new readers give this Nova special a chance. He’s an iconic character who leads with courage and heart. But it’s gonna take a lot more than that to survive this experience! Good luck!”
That mix of cosmic spectacle, superhero legacy and family responsibility has always helped Sam Alexander stand apart. He may possess the power to fly among the stars, but his heart remains connected to the people waiting for him back home. Nova: Return of the Rings #1 looks ready to push both sides of his life to the limit while setting the stage for a much larger battle over the future of the Ten Rings.
The main cover comes from superstar artist Humberto Ramos, bringing his unmistakable energy to Sam Alexander’s explosive return.
NOVA: RETURN OF THE RINGS #1 arrives at comic shops this October. Readers can preorder the one-shot through their local comic shop today.
