Fam, this is the kind of comic-book premise that makes you stop mid-scroll and go, “Hold up, what?” Oni Press is taking Frankenstein’s Monster, cleaning up the scars, sharpening the intellect, throwing him into a Romanian castle packed with supernatural killers, and turning him into a gentleman detective in PROMETHEUS GRAFT: THE SLAYINGS AT DEATH’S END #1.

Written by George Northy with art by Caitlin Yarsky, the series imagines the Creature decades after his creation. He has reinvented himself as Prometheus Graft, one of Europe’s most formidable investigators. The hulking monster is still in there, but now that strength is paired with a mind built to untangle impossible crimes.

The first case drops Graft into Death’s End, a remote Romanian castle where an immortal host has gathered some of Europe’s most dangerous supernatural factions to negotiate peace. Witches, werewolves, vampires and other creatures are all under one roof. You already know that meeting was never ending quietly.

When one of the guests turns up murdered in the castle’s hedge maze, the treaty starts collapsing immediately. Suspicion spreads, old grudges come roaring back, and Graft has to solve the killing before the gathering turns into a supernatural bloodbath. That is the hook: classic locked-room mystery energy, except the suspects can probably tear through stone walls.

Northy has said he wanted the structure of an Agatha Christie-style whodunnit but needed a detective who belonged inside a monster story. Frankenstein’s Creature is actually a clever fit. In Mary Shelley’s original novel, the Creature is intelligent, articulate and obsessed with understanding what he is. Reframing that mind as someone who solves mysteries feels wild at first, then weirdly obvious.

Yarsky gets the other half of the assignment, building a visual world where gothic horror, dark fantasy and old-school detective fiction can all live together without one swallowing the others. Oni is also loading the launch with covers from Yarsky, Eric Powell, Gabriel Rodriguez and Patricia Martín.

PROMETHEUS GRAFT: THE SLAYINGS AT DEATH’S END #1 hits shops December 9, 2026 for $4.99. Frankenstein as supernatural Poirot? Yeah, mi gente, comics are still undefeated when somebody gets a beautifully ridiculous idea and actually commits to it.
