BOREDSPACE Turns One Bad Job Into a Full-Blown Sci-Fi Survival Nightmare

Mi gente, there are bad jobs, there are cursed jobs, and then there is the kind of job where your buyer is already dead before you can even finish the transaction. That is the mess waiting for Chathura Vax in BOREDSPACE, the 49-page, full-color sci-fi story from writer P.A. Lopez and artist Samuel Bermudez, now available from Brain Poison.

Chathura is a professional thief with a deadline that has nothing to do with ego or getting rich. Her sister turns eighteen in two weeks, and once that happens, the state plans to transfer her to a facility she is not expected to survive. Chath needs enough money to get them both out. One last job should do it. Steal a cheap plastic necklace, hand it over, get paid, disappear. Easy, right? Of course not. The buyer is dead.
From there the pressure piles up fast. Debt collectors are closing in, bounty hunters are on her trail, and a mysterious religious order has entered the picture. What starts as a simple theft turns into a survival story where the universe does not care about your plans, your timing, or whether you deserve a break.

That is the piece that makes BOREDSPACE stand out. Lopez is using space opera, crime fiction and dark comedy, but the engine underneath all of it is painfully human. Money problems. Family obligations. Fear. Exhaustion. That feeling that one more thing going wrong might finally be the thing that breaks you. Then the book takes all of that and launches it into a galaxy where chaos is basically part of the weather.
BOREDSPACE also expands the growing Brain Poison universe alongside Cyberpink, Vox Wormhall: Robot Detective and 10 Million AD. The stories may operate in different corners of the same universe, but the connective tissue is consequence. Nobody gets a magical safety net just because they are the lead character.

BoredSpace is available now as a 49-page, full-color graphic novel via GlobalComix and brainpoison.net. If you like your science fiction weird, dangerous and grounded by characters who are just trying to survive another terrible day, this one is worth putting on the radar.
