PURGATORI & CHASTITY RETURN IN MASSIVE CHAOS! COMICS OMNIBUS EDITIONS

Crusaders, somebody kicked the damn crypt door off the hinges because CHAOS! is back in the building.

Purgatori and Chastity, two characters who helped define that gloriously loud, sexy, blood-soaked insanity of 1990s CHAOS! Comics, are back in the spotlight with massive new deluxe omnibus editions, and the Kickstarter campaign is LIVE right now.

Yeah, fam. We are talking straight-up peak ’90s comic-book madness here. Vampires. Demons. Bad attitudes. Bigger personalities. Artwork that looked like it was designed specifically to make your local comic shop owner nervous. Subtlety? Nah. CHAOS! never even had that word in the employee handbook.

These new collections pull together classic Purgatori and Chastity material into oversized omnibus editions built for longtime readers who remember this era like it happened last Tuesday, while also giving newer fans a much cleaner way to finally see what all the noise was about.

And of course Lady Death and Evil Ernie are floating around this whole beautiful mess too, because come on. You don’t crack open the CHAOS! vault and politely invite only two people to the party. You bring the whole dysfunctional supernatural family.

The Kickstarter officially went live on September 10 at 9 PM Eastern / 6 PM Pacific, and early backers have an extra reason to move quick. The first 66 hours of the campaign include free Purgatori and Chastity trading cards for qualifying backers, giving collectors a little extra old-school flavor with their pledge.

Brian Pulido is also supporting the campaign, which gives this thing another layer of legitimacy for anybody who rode with CHAOS! during its original run. Pulido was one of the central creative forces behind that era, so having him involved connects these collections directly back to the madness that helped make these characters cult favorites in the first place.

For those of us who survived the original bad-girl boom, this stuff hits a very specific nostalgia button. You remember walking into the comic shop and instantly knowing which books were CHAOS! books from halfway across the room. Loud covers, outrageous characters, zero apologies. But here’s what makes these omnibuses more interesting than another nostalgia cash grab.

There is an entire generation of comic readers who recognize Purgatori and Chastity, know the artwork, maybe saw the posters, cards, variants and convention merch, but never actually sat down and read the stories. Collections like this give those readers a real doorway into the material instead of making them hunt down thirty-year-old back issues like Indiana Jones with a pull list.

That is what a good archival collection should do. Preserve the insanity for the people who were there while making it easy for somebody new to understand why anybody still gives a damn decades later.
