Shaboozey Rides Into San Diego Comic-Con with Debut Comic The Outlaw Cherie Lee

·Al Mega

The Grammy-winning crossover star expands his upcoming Western concept album through a three-part comic series, live podcast panel, exclusive SDCC signing, and a Jamie Foxx-narrated trailer

Shaboozey is not simply dropping another album and riding off into the sunset. Nah, partner, he is building an entire universe.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter will make his San Diego Comic-Con debut to celebrate The Outlaw Cherie Lee #1, the opening chapter of a three-part Western comic series published by Range Comics, the comic book and graphic novel imprint of Range Literary Publishing. The series expands the story behind Shaboozey’s upcoming fourth studio album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales.

The album arrives through American Dogwood on July 31, 2026, presenting a cinematic tale built around Cherie Lee, a woman forced to challenge everything she believed about herself and the world surrounding her. The project’s fiery trailer is narrated by Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, immediately setting the tone for a story driven by love, revenge, danger, and hard truths under an unforgiving Western sky. Fans can find album editions through the American Dogwood store.

While the comic’s nationwide publication date is set for August 18, 2026, San Diego Comic-Con attendees will have the opportunity to secure an early copy weeks before everybody else. That is the kind of convention exclusive that sends collectors running across the show floor like somebody just yelled, “Last copy!”

Shaboozey’s Comic-Con appearance begins on Friday, July 24, with an exclusive signing at Funko Booth #5341. The signing is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., giving fans the chance to meet the artist and have an advance copy of The Outlaw Cherie Lee #1 signed before its general release.

Later that evening, Shaboozey will join digital creator and podcast host JuJu Green, better known as Straw Hat Goofy, for a special live edition of the iHeartRadio podcast Get Rec’d With Straw Hat Goofy.

The panel will dig into the creation of the comic, the development of the new album, and the process of translating one central narrative across music and sequential art. Attendees will also receive a closer look at the new Jamie Foxx-narrated trailer. The live recording takes place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Room 6BCF.

The comic brings together a full creative team charged with turning Shaboozey’s Western vision into a complete visual narrative. The series was created by Collins “Shaboozey” Chibueze and Xaivia Inniss, with comic scripting and story adaptation by Robert Jeffrey II. Sean Damien Hill provides the artwork and cover, joined by colorist Andrew Dalhouse, letterer Taylor Esposito of Ghost Glyph Studios, editor Sarah Schonian Speich, and designer Matt Harding.

That roster matters because this is not being positioned as some celebrity side quest with a famous name slapped across the cover. The comic is designed as a genuine extension of the album’s story—a new doorway into the characters, mythology, and emotional stakes driving The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales.

Shaboozey’s move into comics feels like a natural progression for an artist whose music has always pulled from multiple traditions. Raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, he developed a style shaped by country, hip-hop, blues, R&B, folk, and Americana rather than allowing himself to be boxed into one convenient industry category.

His breakthrough accelerated through two appearances on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter before “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became a Diamond-certified phenomenon and a record-setting Billboard Hot 100 hit. In 2026, Shaboozey earned his first Grammy Award for “Amen,” his collaboration with Jelly Roll.

Now he is taking that same genre-bending approach and applying it to publishing.

Music establishes the mood. Comics reveal the world. Trailers supply movement and atmosphere. Together, those pieces allow Shaboozey to build something bigger than a traditional album rollout. He is giving audiences several ways to enter the same story without making any one format feel like leftover promotional merchandise.

That is the real hook here.

The Outlaw Cherie Lee represents a collision between music, comics, cinema, and modern Western storytelling. For Shaboozey fans, it provides a deeper look inside the mythology of his new album. For comic readers, it introduces a new three-part Western from a creator already known for blending genres and ignoring the little industry boxes people keep trying to place around him.

San Diego Comic-Con runs July 23–26, 2026, with Preview Night on July 22. Fans planning their convention schedule can review the latest programming information through the official Comic-Con schedule.

Shaboozey came to the party with a comic, a concept album, a live panel, Jamie Foxx narration, and a Funko booth signing.

That is not merely arriving at Comic-Con.

That is kicking open the saloon doors. 🤠🔥
