Christian Ward & Sami Kivelä Open the Door to THE FOREVER HOME #1 Oni Press’ Apocalypse-Proof Sci-Fi Nightmare Is Coming

The D’mour family bought themselves time, luxury, robots, and a front-row seat to the end of the world. But in THE FOREVER HOME #1, Oni Press asks the real question: when something ancient comes knocking, is twenty minutes per year enough to survive the smoke?
Oni Press is about to open the door to something slick, scary, and way too close to home with THE FOREVER HOME #1, a six-issue sci-fi thriller from comics powerhouse Christian Ward and visionary artist Sami Kivelä, arriving in comic shops this September. And nah, this ain’t your cozy little smart house story. This is billionaire bunker paranoia with the volume turned all the way up.
Infamous billionaire scientist Henry D’mour had the brains, money, and resources to help save the world. Did he? Of course not. Man said, “I got mine,” and built THE FOREVER HOME — a luxury survival ark packed with high-tech comfort, robotic helpers, and one wild little cheat code against time itself.
Inside the house, only twenty minutes pass for every year outside. Outside? The planet is choking through its final screams. Inside? The D’mour family is playing long-game civilization chess in designer slippers. Sounds perfect, right?
Yeah. That’s usually when comics slap you in the face. Because one childish mistake cracks the barrier protecting THE FOREVER HOME, and whatever has been waiting outside decides it’s done being polite.
“The horror of THE FOREVER HOME was easy to find,” said writer and co-creator Christian Ward. “It’s in the ever increasing news stories that seem to surround us. Stories of a changing world. Of more and more extreme weather. Where it’s not hard to imagine people in the world whose survival is being pushed to the brink by that change and of course, it’s equally not hard to believe the conspiracies of the billionaires building themselves bunkers and liferafts for imagined apocalypse. That’s the angry seed from which we grow the story of this book. Soaked in the terror that sometimes you have to go impossible lengths to keep your family safe.”
That’s the hook right there, fam. Climate fear, billionaire escape plans, family survival, and the nightmare question nobody wants to answer: what happens when the bunker isn’t enough?
“THE FOREVER HOME is like the perfect Ray Bradbury short story by way of Parasite,” said Oni Press Editor-in Chief Sierra Hahn. “Christian and Sami’s vision is haunting, prescient, and an unforgettable look into the future of the world, with cliffhangers worthy of Brian K Vaughan. It’s exceptional storytelling.”
Artist and co-creator Sami Kivelä is bringing a world where retro sci-fi style crashes headfirst into post-apocalyptic dread, giving readers a house that feels futuristic, familiar, and cursed all at once.
“Designing this post-apocalyptic book was a fascinating process of visualizing what the world looks like when the past meets the future,” said artist and co-creator Sami Kivelä. “Our house and its surroundings are filled with retro-inspired sci-fi elements and robots, but they also include many details that feel familiar to people today. I think that this contrast creates an unexpected setting that invites our readers to explore more.”
Ward also makes it clear this one is personal, and he’s not playing small ball with it.
“In my two decades of comic making, THE FOREVER HOME is one of the books I’m most proud of, not least because Sami Kivelä (who I’m reteaming with after working together on Machine Gun Wizards) is doing the work of his career,” said Ward. “So I hope you’ll join us in THE FOREVER HOME, but please, make sure to close the door after you.”
THE FOREVER HOME #1 lands in comic shops on September 9, 2026, featuring covers by Christian Ward, Sami Kivelä, Frany, David Rubín, and Miguel Mercado.
Step inside if you want. Just remember: inside, time stands still. Outside, something has been waiting eons.
And apparently, it knows how to knock.
