THE FINE ART OF ROCKY CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF THE ITALIAN STALLION THROUGH JOHN RIVOLI’S CANVAS

Yo, Adrian… fifty years later and Rocky still refuses to stay down.

As the original film heads toward its 50th anniversary this December, official Rocky artist John Rivoli is celebrating the franchise with The Fine Art of Rocky: An Artistic Tribute from Screen to Canvas, a deluxe hardcover from Insight Editions that takes one of cinema’s most iconic underdogs and gives him the fine-art treatment.

The 176-page book features more than 100 paintings, posters and other original works inspired by the six Rocky films, including collaborations with Sylvester Stallone. Stallone also provides the foreword, which immediately tells you this is not some random coffee-table cash grab. Rivoli has spent years working inside the entertainment world and has had a direct creative relationship with Stallone and the Rocky brand.

Rivoli’s goal here is bigger than simply recreating famous movie stills. The book is built around the idea that Rocky deserves to be looked at as art, not just as one of the greatest sports films ever made. Through his paintings, Rivoli revisits the emotion, struggle, grit and visual language that made Rocky Balboa endure long after that first run up the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps.

That makes this release hit differently. Everybody knows the training montages, the gloves, the bell, the music and the statue. Rivoli is trying to slow those images down and make fans look at them again through another lens. For a franchise this culturally burned into our brains, that is actually a pretty cool challenge.

The Fine Art of Rocky: An Artistic Tribute from Screen to Canvas is published by Insight Editions and is scheduled for release on October 6, 2026. The hardcover measures 10 x 11 inches, runs 176 pages and carries a suggested retail price of $60. A limited signed-print edition is also available directly from Insight Editions.

Fifty years later, Rocky is still about getting hit, getting back up and finding something inside yourself when everybody else thinks you’re done. If Rivoli can translate even a piece of that onto the page, this one belongs on the radar of Rocky fans, film-art collectors and anybody who still gets goosebumps when those horns kick in.
