EC Comics Brings the Holiday Horror Back With SHIVER SUSPENSTORIES 3 #1

EC Comics and Oni Press are dragging holiday cheer straight into the crypt with SHIVER SUSPENSTORIES 3 #1, a giant-sized 56-page one-shot arriving December 9.

Christmas is supposed to be about family, food, gifts, and pretending you actually like everybody sitting around the table. EC Comics apparently looked at all that wholesome holiday cheer and said, “Nah, somebody needs to get murdered.”

Oni Press and William M. Gaines Agent, Inc. are bringing the madness back this December with SHIVER SUSPENSTORIES 3 #1, another oversized holiday horror special packed with twisted stories, bad decisions, and enough seasonal carnage to make Santa reconsider the whole damn route.

The 56-page giant arrives December 9, marking the third year of EC Comics turning Christmas spirit into Christmas screams. This time around, the creative lineup includes John Arcudi, Sarah Gailey, Ryan Kelly, David Lapham, Jay Stephens, and more surprise contributors ready to drag readers through another round of wintertime insanity. And because this is EC Comics, nobody is showing up to decorate cookies and sing carols.

The stories promise holiday greed, brutal consequences, New Year nightmares, and a very different interpretation of Santa’s “Naughty List.” Basically, if you were hoping for warm fireplaces and Hallmark movie energy, wrong house, fam. Somebody is getting dragged into the snow, and odds are that snow is not staying white for long.

Oni Press Editor Allyson Gronowitz teased the issue as another full dive into EC’s blood-soaked holiday tradition, highlighting winter madness, party greed, and some seriously ugly consequences for anybody unfortunate enough to land on the wrong side of the season.

The issue will also include another restored and remastered classic EC story pulled straight from the archives, giving longtime fans another taste of vintage horror alongside the new material. That mix of old-school EC nastiness and modern creators cutting loose has become one of the coolest parts of this revival, and the holiday specials give everybody an excuse to go completely off the rails. And yeah, the covers are coming correct too.

Dustin Weaver, Steve Lieber, Shawn McManus, and Rian Hughes are handling the cover lineup, giving collectors multiple ways to display some deeply unhealthy Christmas spirit on the shelf.

Three years in and SHIVER SUSPENSTORIES is officially becoming the kind of holiday tradition your relatives probably will not understand. Some families watch A Christmas Story. Some hang stockings. EC readers apparently celebrate by opening a comic and wondering which poor bastard is about to get chopped up before dessert.
