DEATHBLADE Is Coming Back for Blood as Skull Valley Comics Unleashes Issues #2 & #3 and BLOODWARS #1 on Kickstarter!

·Al Mega

The growing indie comics universe returns September 18 with new DEATHBLADE chapters, the terrifying debut of BLOODWARS, an international creative team and more than 3,000 fans already waiting at the gates.

WEPPPAAAAA! Now this is how you come back swinging!

Skull Valley Comics is loading up for its biggest campaign yet as DEATHBLADE: THE AWAKENING returns to Kickstarter on September 18, 2026, and this time EA Brown, Phillip Mattics and company are not walking through the door quietly. They are kicking that sucker off the hinges with DEATHBLADE Issues #2 and #3 alongside the premiere of an entirely new horror property, BLOODWARS #1: A DEATHBLADE Saga.

Comic Crusaders has been watching this project grow, and mi gente, the momentum is real. What began with roughly 150 Kickstarter backers and a campaign that funded in less than 24 hours has continued to expand well beyond that first victory. DEATHBLADE: THE AWAKENING has since moved more than 500 additional copies of Issue #1, while the upcoming campaign has climbed to 3,049 Kickstarter pre-launch followers ready to see where this universe goes next. For an independent comic fighting for visibility in a market where everybody is screaming for attention, those numbers deserve some respect.

We have been proud to help shine a light on DEATHBLADE alongside voices including Rob of Comics Explained, Thomas Huls of World at War Comics, Black Comic Lords Podcast, Anime Ink Art Live, Movement Radio, Secret Society of Black Comix, Nerdy Man Room Podcast, Comic Book Block Podcast and others. More readers kept discovering the book, more people started talking, and DEATHBLADE went from an indie title trying to get above the noise to a universe with thousands of eyes waiting to see the next move. That is exactly why we keep beating the drum for creator-owned comics around here. Good work deserves a fighting chance to be seen.

And DEATHBLADE definitely knows how to make an entrance. The series mixes supernatural horror, brutal action, military tension and heavy world-building into something aimed straight at readers who like their heroes damaged, their mythology dark and their action served without training wheels. If Constantine, Swamp Thing, The Punisher, Blade, Underworld, Ghost Rider and Witchblade live somewhere on your bookshelf, DEATHBLADE is knocking on the door like, “Yo, you busy?”

The next campaign pushes that mythology forward with Issues #2 and #3 while opening an entirely new corner of the universe through BLOODWARS #1: A DEATHBLADE Saga. Rather than treating BLOODWARS like some random side project slapped onto the campaign for extra sauce, Skull Valley Comics is positioning it as another piece of a larger interconnected world, bringing a fresh horror flavor into the mythology while giving longtime readers more reasons to dig deeper.

The growing international creative team includes EA Brown and Phillip Mattics, joined by writer Emmanuel Echeta, interior artist Yuseph Shittuh, colorist Alfred Et Al, letterer ES Kay and editor Chucky Pineau. The campaign is also packing serious variant-cover firepower, with talent including Caanan White, Oscar Pinta, Martin-Olivier Dagenais, Alfred McLord, Muhamad Sahrudin Muhamad, Viktor Miller Gausa, Juan Pruis Calzada, Phillip Mattics, Chris Cross Williams and more bringing their own visual flavor to the expanding universe.

The artwork coming out of this thing already tells you Skull Valley Comics is not playing small ball. Towering supernatural figures, explosive black-and-white action, monstrous transformations and characters who look like they walked out of one nightmare directly into another give DEATHBLADE a visual identity built to stop thumbs while people are scrolling. The team understands something very simple: the art might get somebody to look, but the characters and story have to give them a reason to stay.

Brown and the Skull Valley Comics crew have also made their philosophy clear. They are not asking anybody to support DEATHBLADE merely because it is independent. They want readers to judge the story, judge the art, judge the characters and judge the universe itself. That attitude hits different. Indie comics should not need sympathy purchases. Put the book on the table, let the work speak and invite people to decide whether you brought the goods.

There is also some serious comic-book DNA behind that ambition. The creators cite legends such as Jack Kirby and Dwayne McDuffie among their inspirations, two storytellers who understood that comics could deliver gigantic imagination while still giving readers characters and worlds worth investing in. Skull Valley Comics is clearly thinking beyond one book or one campaign. The mission is to build something people can keep coming back to.

The September campaign promises exclusive editions, limited collector rewards, premium hardcover offerings and campaign-exclusive collectibles, giving returning supporters plenty to chase while also creating an entry point for readers discovering DEATHBLADE for the first time. With thousands of pre-launch followers already watching and BLOODWARS preparing to expand the mythology, September 18 is shaping up to be a major test of just how far this indie universe can climb.

Comic Crusaders loves seeing creators put skin in the game, build their audience brick by brick and refuse to wait around for somebody else to give them permission. DEATHBLADE came into the fight looking for visibility. Now people are watching. The next challenge is turning all those eyeballs into readers, believers and members of THE VALLEY.

So yeah, Crusaders, consider this your warning.

The door is open. The blades are out. BLOODWARS is coming.
