MIDNIGHT X-MEN Turns Marvel’s Mutants Into the Stuff of Horror Legend

·Al Mega

The recently revealed creator-driven initiative reimagining iconic heroes in nightmarish new incarnations debuts in August with MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Della Fonte.

The light had its turn. Now Marvel is kicking open the crypt, turning off the streetlamps, and letting the monsters run the block.

With MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1, Marvel’s new MIDNIGHT UNIVERSE isn’t just stepping into horror — it’s dragging the Marvel mythos into the dark by the cape, claws, and collar. Jonathan Hickman returns to the X-Men, teaming with artist Matteo Della Fonte for a terrifying new vision where New York City is no longer just mutant territory. It is vampire territory too, and the peace between these blood-soaked powers is hanging by a thread.

This is not business-as-usual superhero drama. This is mutants versus vampires with empires, secrets, bloodlines, and war breathing down everybody’s neck. The unturned are caught in the middle, and when Hickman starts building factions, you already know the chessboard is about to catch fire.

Marvel is also making it clear that MIDNIGHT is bigger than one book. The line launches with X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man, twisting some of the biggest icons in comics into something colder, darker, and nastier.

So yeah, preorder MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1 at your local comic shop, because when the clock strikes midnight, Marvel isn’t whispering horror — it’s howling it from the rooftops.
