Nexus: Triplets Goes Live Today With Black Holes, Bounty Hunters, Telepathic Kids and One Talking Bear

Mike Baron and Kelsey Shannon reunite for a complete 72-page cosmic saga that strips Nexus of his godlike power and forces Horatio Hellpop to become a gunslinger again

Forty-five years after writer Mike Baron and artist Steve Rude introduced readers to the strange, dangerous and endlessly imaginative universe of Nexus, Horatio Hellpop is blasting back into action.

The crowdfunding campaign for Nexus: Triplets goes live today, August 25, 2026, delivering a complete 72-page graphic novel from Baron Comics and BIG Studios. Written by Nexus co-creator Mike Baron and illustrated by acclaimed artist Kelsey Shannon, the new standalone adventure throws Nexus into a galaxy-spanning rescue mission filled with black holes, bounty hunters, alien warlords, an eater of worlds and, because this is Nexus, a talking bear named Jack.

Our story begins with the Squiblets, three adorable five-year-old telepaths who share one mind across the universe. When the villainous CYNdicate kidnaps them, the criminals are not looking for ransom. They plan to weaponize the children’s abilities and manipulate financial markets throughout interstellar space.

Nothing says “cosmic evil” quite like abducting telepathic children to commit insider trading across the galaxy. These villains really skipped Saturday-morning cartoon crime and went straight into interplanetary Wall Street corruption. Only one man is reckless enough to bring the Squiblets home: Horatio Hellpop, better known throughout the universe as Nexus.

The CYNdicate knows exactly how dangerous Nexus can be, so it constructs a trap designed to drain the source of his greatest strength. Every black hole he crosses strips away more of his solar energy, slowly erasing the godlike abilities that normally make him nearly unstoppable.

As Nexus fights through waves of bounty hunters, hostile warlords and cosmic monstrosities, his energy continues to disappear. He remains fast, strong and incredibly dangerous, but the power gap is closing with every jump. By the final act, Horatio must rely on something he has not needed in years: cold nerve, sharp instincts and a gun in his hand.

“Nexus is one of the most fertile playgrounds in comics,” said Baron. “With Triplets, I wanted to throw Horatio into a situation where his usual superpowers are disappearing, forcing him to survive on grit, instinct, and sheer determination.”

An early version of the first act previously appeared as a single comic issue, but Shannon has completely revisited, reworked and recolored that opening chapter for this definitive edition. The new graphic novel also includes two previously unseen acts that carry the story through its full conclusion.

“I wanted the full graphic novel to feel visually cohesive from page one to the end,” said Shannon. “I revisited key portions of the first act and then completed the remaining two acts so readers can finally experience the complete, unbroken narrative as it was meant to be seen.”

This is not a campaign built around a stack of unfinished pages and crossed fingers. The entire graphic novel has already been drawn, colored and lettered. Crowdfunding will support premium physical production, campaign-exclusive editions and rapid fulfillment.

“Having a single writer guide a continuous sci-fi epic for forty-five years is almost unheard of in modern comics, and Triplets proves Mike’s narrative voice is still as sharp, fun, and vital as ever,” said BIG Comics publisher Chris Braly.

Campaign rewards include the complete 72-page Nexus: Triplets graphic novel, premium physical editions, exclusive variant covers, digital rewards and a blank sketch-cover edition designed for collectors and convention commissions. Supporters can also grab add-ons including Nexus: Scourge and the first volume of 2026’s Nexus: Deluxe Omnibus. Launch-day reward tiers will be available, while a bonus Nexus story is waiting to be unlocked as a stretch goal.

First launched in 1981 by Baron and Rude, Nexus has built an enduring reputation as one of comics’ boldest mixtures of science fiction, superhero action, political intrigue, philosophical drama and gloriously weird humor.

The series follows Horatio Hellpop, a reluctant executioner tasked with killing mass murderers across a far-future universe. His adventures send him through corrupt governments, bizarre civilizations and impossible moral conflicts while constantly questioning the price of wielding extraordinary power.

Nexus: Triplets carries that legacy forward with a self-contained story created to welcome new readers without leaving longtime fans floating outside the airlock. It has the cosmic scale, moral tension and offbeat personality that made the series special, then drops its hero into a brutal survival story where overwhelming power can no longer save him.

The crowdfunding campaign for Nexus: Triplets goes live today, August 25, 2026. Readers can watch the campaign trailer and choose their preferred crowdfunding platform, including Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Fund My Comic, through BaronComics.com.

The Squiblets need rescuing, the CYNdicate needs wrecking and Nexus is running out of cosmic juice. Saddle up, strap in and watch Horatio Hellpop remind the galaxy that superpowers are optional when you have grit, experience and one seriously itchy trigger finger.
